Thank YOU.
The butcher knife reminds me of the ones my Portuguese grandfather made.
I agree, the Bowie looks to be old Spanish/Mexican make to me, but I'm grossly lacking in knowledge about this type of knife ;-)
Glad to have a concurring opinion.
Switching gears. I can't remember if I posted this one before, it's a very old (I think) hand forged full tang Bowie I found at an antique store for $25. I'm guessing the handle - which shows worm damage - is mesquite. The scabbard had a leather thong at the top and frills at the end, both of...
That Hank hat looks pretty darn good to me. I replicated one for myself a couple of years back from the same photo by putting that crease in an open crowned OR 25. . Too bad I can't pull of that long lean look...
I live in a pretty warm region of the north Central Valley in California, and alternate between straws and lightweight vintage felts like the Champ featherweight and analogs by other hat makers in the summer with pretty good results.
Cindy, I've flipped your photos and am reposting them. I don't know if you have a puller downer, but it helps with getting the dents out, and a blocking cord with a hatter's knot will help hold the felt tight while it dries & shrinks to the shape of the block.
Check out the hatter's tools...
It looks great on you Terry! Thanks for making this thread and all the nice things you said. I'm glad you like your hats. Your own ribbon work is excellent.
Dogman, Terry is right, your kind words mean a lot because your work is very good.
Joao, you are THE cowboy hat man, but you maybe...
I have posted a table in this thread of various hat/head charts from various manufacturers' hat rulers. I have not updated it in a while, but many makers are represented.
The Stetson/Biltmore ruler is plainly of Canadian make, and may skew European.
