Yep Tony... I believe you are right.

The movie maker sure did a great job of picking a very good hat maker to duplicate the hats and did also an amazing job of finding the perfect appearing actor to play the part. Looking forward to seeing the movie now!

I only have one from the Major's, but based on this they picked the right man.
Kudos MM
Looks just like a San Fran from the mid 40's
Pic stolen from TFL

Ingineer, I would say Hanks original hat was a 2 5\8's no more than a 2 3\4 inch brim Open Road or one of the clones made at the time.
Have to concede that you are correct, I was just trying to make a point that the hat appears to be perfectly correct for the time period and that it is fantastic work.

I'll post one of the western crown hats in a day or two we did and it will be worn in the music scenes

Congratulations Major! The fedora you made is beautiful. That is one of my favorite styles of hats, an Open Road in a diamond crease. Can't wait to see the others.

I'm curious about the inside of the hats. Are they concerned at all about the liners or sweatbands? I remember watching a movie not too long ago and in one scene you catch a quick glimpse of the inside of the hat. It was supposed to be an older "Gus" style hat but I immediately recognized the liner as a new production Stetson. I'm just curious how far some movie companies go for accuracy in a hat.

I ran across these shots on the web.

Here is Tom in the dark fedora made for the film.

Pretty cool mockup someone made of a Rolling Stone cover, but it shows Tom in the western made for the film.
