Lucky,
Thanks for all those postings! I really appreciate it! I love those revoloving bookcases--I never see them though! I also found a partners desk for sale, but it's pushing my budget, and more importantly, I tend to put my desks against the wall--but it has a lot of desk space, drawers...
I like desks that have a lot of desk space. I tend to sprawl everything on my desk--many books, papers, etc. I only keep a pen cup, lamp and laptop on the desk, but I'm always working with a lot of books and papers out, so I really need a large surface area. But, I also want the desk to have a...
I rented the Quiet American, and when I was reading the back cover and discovered the film was based off another of Graham Greene's novels I thought to myself that many novels Greene wrote became great movies.
I love the End of the Affair--and of course--the Third Man. What's your favorite...
I want to buy a vintage looking desk for my study, and I would appreciate some Lounger's suggestions on the following.
This is my current desk:
It measures 59.5 across, 29.5 deep, and 30.5 high. I like big desks, and am looking for something bigger.
On my local craigslist I...
I rented this film from the library this weekend, and it was a good movie. It takes place from the mid 40's through the 70's. The plot surrounds a NY writer and avid reader who begins a letter exchange with a British bookseller. If you enjoy books, and enjoy films with a strong literary...
Modern Golden Era Films
As the title suggests, I'm looking for a list--or even suggestions from fellow Loungers--on contermporary films set in the Golden Era. I enjoy modern period pieces and enjoy getting crisp, clear shots of wardrobe, living quaters, colors, etc. It's a different expereince...
a friend of mine had the 2-disc special editions, and inside they explained many of the sound effects. For example, Indy's gun sound was really a shot gun. If the film features do not work, try inquiring at a local art/film school.
I'll never understand it, and I'll never accept it. It is never too hot to wear shoes. One may want to wear shorts, which I still find a bit silly in many settings, but this whole flip-flop, croc phase that has hit America is really a splendid display of classic Amercian laziness. It really...
I think what I wanted was a sharper dialogue and a bit more edge and grit. I don't know what it was precisely, perhaps the setting in the California mountains and Mexico, but part of the film felt more pristine than gritty.
I'm watching The Third Man this weekend, and I have high...
Okay, so tell me why. What am I missing? Don't Double Indemnity, Murder, My Sweet, or any Bogart noir have the qualities that Out of the Past does not?
I saw Out of the Past this weekend, and it was okay. In fact I'm surprised how enthusiastic the reveiws are for the film. It was not bad--at all--but it just was not "wow!" It was good, but I imagine Mitchum and Greer in better roles, with stronger, more developed characters. Perhaps this is...
There are too many colors between the pants, shoes, and jacket and vest. i think the most classic look would be a suit or something Hughes would wear to fly. Normally one doesn't wear a vest with a sport jacket. A 3 piece suit should match. Add a moustache if you don't already have one.
Looks good, but why does Ford's Fedora obscure the title of the magazine? This seems very odd. I think the title should be most prominent on the cover. You want customers to know what they're purchasing. Is this the last issue?
