Unless it's dead still outside I have trouble wearing my hat at a jauntier angle. My head shape seems to make it difficult - I can only manage a slight angle or small shift forward or back.
Marty,
Great hat! I like Worth & Worth and they do still make that model. I used to go there when they still had their retail store in NYC. Now they have a showroom that you can still visit and an incredible number of fabrics for caps and a good variety of felt hats...
All I can tell you for sure is that one of my goals, at some time in the future, would be to have a place in the country where I could, at least in theory, live entirely off the grid, grow my own food, etc. If I had the money for it, I would love to have a "gentleman's" farm that would provide...
Fedoralover's photo gets closer to the color than mine. I am having a heck of a time trying to get a clear shot and keep the very deep navy color while still showing the details... At least these two are clear.
By the way - nobody tell Art that's a Jazzman proping up the new Optimo...
Thanks to fedoralover I now have my new Optimo 'Manhattan' in navy blue and I'm thrilled!!!
No photos yet, I've only just returned from our condo assoc. meeting and opened the box.
The hat is a beautiful deep navy with a bound edge (1/4"), roughly two inch brim and five inch crown and 1...
This article doesn't really discuss hats or specific clothing in the former USSR however, the section on Soviet Style mentions the development of a "clothing production industry" instead of a "fashion industry" based on "fashion trends approved by the all-Union conferences."
From this I would...
Would Capucine meet the pre-1950 requirement? I know most of her career was a bit later but, most of the obvious choices, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Vivien Leigh, Louise Brooks, et al. have been mentioned. She was, perhaps, my second crush? After Fran Jeffries who's carreer did not begin...
Unfortunately I don't really know the answer to your question but, from our last trip to Russia, it did seem that there were more people wearing hats that many other places we have visited.
I would imagine that with the cold weather and lack of certain amenities well into the 1980's hats...
For those interested in the history of cooking or recipes
These recipes are taken from a New York Times article, The Secrets of the Carver. An Early English Dinner – Studies in the Operative Surgery of Animals by Juliet Corson, published on March 1, 1896. The venison recipe comes from Mme...
After cooking Turkeys any number of ways over the years, this year, I've dug up some historical recipies and descriptions of meals and opted for stuffed chukar partridge from a recent, and perhaps last, hunt with my dog, venison, several vegetable sides and, my own fresh baked bread. After the...
Here is an old favourite in need of some TLC. I've had it since 1993 and the worst wear seems to be pilling and and a few stiches loose around the velvet in the collar.
My preference these days is for the hybrid "boxer-briefs" from a company called Staples in Canada. They make them from silk that stretches and they cover the elastic in the waist. I find them more comfortable and easier to wear under well tailored trousers. I used to wear boxers but, most now...
My Art Fawcett Jazzman. It is my favourite fedora followed by my vintage Borsalino stingy brim in a fuzzy rich medium brown.
I saw a similar Borsalino in blue listed recently for auction but it's a bit too large so I could not justify paying the amount the seller wanted. Besides, I'm...
Referring back to the original post - another virtue of the bow tie is you won't dip it in the soup when eating. I wore my first bow ties in grammar school. It was still within the dress code but stood out, and I still tell people that I began weating them since I was always dipping my...
