Just found a DVD set of Generation Kill at a local thrift store. Simon didn't pull his punches in The Wire, and Generation Kill is not any different. Two episodes left.
That is a shame, indeed. I well remember seeing a Vulcan fly in the Canadian International Airshow every year in the sixties. It was certainly one of the highlights of the show...looked like a giant moth. Magnificent.
I would certainly second your opinion of the film. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Perhaps we could form a fan club of two, perhaps three (my wife enjoyed it as well). The sense of menace and instability that radiated from Brad Pitt was exceptional. Casey Affleck's Robert Ford was flesh crawlingly...
Ron Hansen's 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford'. It's kept my interest so far. After a lifetime of being an avid reader I have finally got to the point that I won't 'stick with' a book if it fails to pique my interest. This one is doing just fine...for a change.
You're right about Naked Prey. The whole movie is a chase scene. The 'roasting over the fire' scene always made my flesh crawl!
Vehicle-wise, I've never been a great fan of car chase scenes but I do usually enjoy the car/subway chase in The French Connection.
The audio is killing me. Either there's no closed captioning up here or I couldn't figure out how to turn it on...either way, trying to decipher what they're saying is brutal. I find the narrative, at least what I can grasp, is moving along at a fairly sluggish pace. I'm hoping I'll warm up...
In that particular case, it was a matter of "do I need another one". I already have three 302 models, one of which I often have hooked up. I've come to enjoy the dialing process...more deliberate, more relaxing frankly, than pushing buttons. I also have a beautiful 1939 202 that sees regular...
I found a beautiful 1949 302 rotary phone in a thrift shop just before Christmas. While I was examining it, the young lady behind the counter mentioned that she had no idea how to use one of those phones. So I showed her...she was unimpressed with the technology. Yeah...I'm starting to feel...
Never mind the small town display... I was in the Canadian Museum of Science and Technology in Ottawa about 5 years ago and I could point out all the computers that I once used to my son, from the Commodore PET and the C64 to the 486. Yikes! I even mentioned how excited we were when the...
Have to admit I basically had the same reaction. Almost turned it off half-way through. They introduced an interesting new element at the end (being obscure for the sake of those who have not seen it) but frankly I was more intrigued with the idea of the reappearance of Irene Adler... 'the...
Just re-watched "We're No Angels" with Bogart, Ustinov and Aldo Ray....it's even got Leo Carroll and Basil Rathbone. One of my favourites, I sometimes feel like I'm the only person who's ever seen this delightful movie!
Currently reading Robert Parker's 'Brimstone'. Just found a copy of Ambrose's 'Pegasus Bridge' in a thrift store. I think that'll be next... 'Up the Oxs and Bucks', to quote The Longest Day.
I enjoyed that one...his description of all the nasties that can threaten/infect you in the Amazon area will certainly ensure my avoidance of the area!
I've seen both seasons before and enjoyed each one. That was the the second time, and like every other excellent production, such as Deadwood, The Wire, and Sopranos, the series will reward a third viewing as well.
I had the same reaction. Somewhat disappointed. Here's hoping the next two episodes improve.
I just discovered FX Canada is having a Fargo season 2 marathon today! Just started watching...missed the first 4 episodes, though. The season 1 marathon yesterday was terrific.
