I have never heard of this series before, but I love mysteries, especially when they are set in the "Golden Era" or before.
Thanks for the link to the author! :)
Jazzbaby - you should try Lottabody, you will see it mentioned alot in the various hair threads here at the FL. It is readily available at beauty supply stores, or online (plus it is very inexpensive:) )
I really need advice on this one...
:( Today I bought a vintage white chenille bedspread at a church bazzar. It had no tags and I had no idea of the size, but I was hoping it was at least a full size which would cover my queen size bed.
Alas, after I washed it and put it on, I discovered it...
Thanks everyone for the advice on colors.
Honey Doll - I had never tried Feria before, but after your recommendation, I checked out the website and found a color (close to my natural) that I absolutely loved. It is called Caramel Kiss and what I especially like is the special conditioner so...
I am due to touch up my hair color, and was thinking of trying a different (but not too extreme) shade. I do my own color and usually use Miss Clariol or Hydrience. My natural color is a reddish blonde, and I like the warmer shades. What shades were popular in the "Golden Era"?
I can't find Max Factor anywhere here either. I have resigned myself to ordering online, and Walgreens had the panstick makeup in most shades, including the lighter ones which are sometimes hard to find. They also sometimes offer free shipping.:)
The way I apply it:
Use a large fluffy puff (not like the ones in a pressed compact) and fluff it on, then dust off excess with a really full makeup brush.
I don't think it would be a good idea to transfer loose powder to a pressed powder compact:)
Jergens cold cream on sale!
Just thought I would pass it along, that Vermont Country Store www.VermontCountrystore.com, has Jergens cold cream (or cleansing cream as it is called now) on sale for only $1.99.
Time for me to stock up:)
My 9 year old daughter likes me to set her hair to give her that '40s Veronica Lake look and she will watch the '40s movies with me. She likes to see the stars looking glamourous as opposed to most of today's stars who look like slobs.
I have the loose powder.
The box is .37 oz. compared to Coty Airspun at 2.3 oz. so it is smaller. This is my second box, the first lasted from December until about June with everyday usage, so like most of their products, they do last a while. The Besame powder has that heavenly vanilla...
I, like my mother before me, swear by Ponds brand cold cream, but sometimes I can't always find it in stock, another alternative that I like (and is also a good value) is Jergen's.
I also enjoy the Poirot series, and watch it on the Biography channel several times a week.
For fans of Miss Marple, there is a series by Patricia Wentworth called Miss Silver, these books also feature an elderly lady detective and are very enjoyable.
I don't know of anyone who had luck with Spoolies. Long hair/short hair thick or thin, they just don't stay put!
I gave them to my daughter to use in her doll's hair (they don't work for that either):)
I just switched from doing pin curls with bobbie pins to the smallest size of the foam rollers. I can do my whole head in about 10 minutes and it stays rolled all night! I think the results are better too, no frizz, and they last longer, and best of all, no fish hooks from stray ends! I don't...
