What size rollers are you using? My hair is very fine and thin and the super small size ,when rolled with not too much hair, stay in and work well for me. They make some now that are satin covered, to keep your hair from snagging, but stay away from those as the satin will cause your hair to...
I have a couple of nice vintage radios that I rarely listen to because I can't find a decent station! :(
For years several of the a.m. stations had the "Music of Your Life" format, but within the last few years they have totally disappeared around here. On Sunday's I can sometimes find a...
I love to knit too! Right now I'm working on an afghan, nothing vintage about it, but I love to put on a cd of '40s music or one of an old radio show on my "repo" Crosley cd player/radio and I feel like I am transported back in time. Plus I find it very relaxing.
This is one of my favorite Hitchcock movies, maybe because it's so rarely on TV. Everyone is so sophisticated ! I understand that it was based loosely on the Leopold and Loeb case of the '20s(30's?) and I remember hearing somewhere that there was something special about the way it was filmed...
I soak a cotton pad with it and run it through each section before I pin curl. Kind of like you would do with wave lotion when you have a perm. It stays on the pad and doesn't dribble down your neck:)
The only time I used to get to Christmas Tree Shops was on vacation in Cape Cod, which my family hated because I would load up the car! A couple of years ago one actually opened near me, so now I'm there at least once a month! Like the commercial says, "Don't you just love a bargain"!!!! I do!:D
I got it a couple of years ago at The Christmas Tree shop. How to describe The Christmas Tree shop to those of you not in New England? The website says they're a "year-round bargain store"; it's kind of like a Marshalls with no clothes.
Anyway, I paid $3.99 for it--a good placeholder...
I can't add anything that hasn't already been said, you ladies all look stunning!! Mostly I'm impressed that you all are average gals, I know there are a few professional hairdressers here, and you can achieve such a professional look!!:)
I feel that way too....although after almost 20 years with my husband, he is used to it! I sometimes try to coordinate a pretty floral scarf with whatever pj's I'm wearing that night, so at least I look somewhat put together:D
I tie mine on Rosie the Riveter style so I have a big bow on top...
MarieAnne it's so funny you mention the movie GREASE. When I was a kid and saw it for the first time, I was fascinated with those head scarves covering their pin curls! I didn't know you could buy anything like that, my mom and aunt's always used a scarf, so I bought some tulle and cut it up...
Hi RoseLily - You mention your hair is long, have you considered putting it in a snood? Some of the gals with longer hair use them. I know there is a thread here somewhere devoted to them.:)
I too have always had parties for my kids at home. I have 2 winter (January and March) and 2 summer (Twins - July). I always have theme parties and the kids always have a blast, I do plan them carefully and start about several months in advance. I think its a shame, where I live almost no...
Wow, more great titles!
All of my kids watched "The Best Years of Our Lives" on TCM a few nights ago, and even my younger ones enjoyed it. "Flags of Our Fathers " is one that my son has mentioned, so I'm gonna check that one out along with the "Great Escape" ( I can't believe I forgot that...
Can you buy extra rollers?
That's what I ended up doing with my Caruso set. The large rollers were way to big for me, so I bought extra's of the extra small.
My oldest son is thirteen, which means basically anything my husband or I like as far as music and movies, must be boring.
He is interested in WWII (I knew there had to be something good about those video games:) ) my dad (deceased) was a WWII vet and my son is interested in all my dad's old...
