Looking Good While Setting Your Hair

OK, so we talk about how to make our hair look good quite a bit. How about looking good while setting your hair?

Perhaps other ladies here have the same issue - because of my fine hair I have to wet-set and sleep with my pin curls. In order to keep everything in place and not frizzy I tie a satin scarf I picked-up from Sally's on my noggin'. Unfortunately, according to my boyfriend, I tend to look like I'm going to gaze into a glass ball and tell his future or like I'm an escaped hospital patient. Is there anyway to look halfway decent with a sleep-in set?

I feel that way too....although after almost 20 years with my husband, he is used to it! I sometimes try to coordinate a pretty floral scarf with whatever pj's I'm wearing that night, so at least I look somewhat put together:D

I tie mine on Rosie the Riveter style so I have a big bow on top, with the right scarf, it actually can look cute. I do get self conscience if my kids have friends sleep over, I have heard them say "WHAT are those THINGS your mom has in her hair"!

mmmm sleeping in curlers...

thisis something I have yet to try although do plan to do my locks for the wedding (so should really get on and get some....). How DO you sleep in these? Is there a knack or do you just have to accept that it will probably be rather uncomfortable?

I have several things that I do. I have one scarfe that I usually tie up around my pincurls and then I have the same cap thing that Lizzie does. But if I'm trying to look decently cute, or I actually have to leave the house, I have some bigger prettier scarfs that I tie up rosie style. I showed up that way to my husband's unit once and one of the guys just looked at me and giggled. Then tried to rescue hismelf by telling me it was kinda cute. [huh] men.

I leave the house frequently in rollers. I cover them with a wide mesh hairnet and then tie a scarf around Rosie style, with the knot/bow on top.

I have a friend that can tuck hers into a beret cap. So maybe depending on the size of your head and the amount of rollers..you could do the same! You would never know she had rollers in there! But I also like the bigger scarves. I like to find large squares at my local thrift/vintage store. They not only fit my large melon of a head but the rollers with it! with a pretty bow on top!

Thanks for all the ideas ladies. I've tried the Rosie thing before, but it fell out in my sleep. Perhaps I should just try it again and pin it in. It's not like having a few more bobby pins will kill me and it surely is more comfortable since there is no knot in the back of your neck! Looks like I will have to get myself some boudoir scarves.

Wedding Belle:
I don't use curlers, but do flat pin curls. The set looks more like this. Flat pin curls are so much easier to sleep with since it is right against your head. It's not the most comfortable thing in the world, but you get used to it. There are "upright" pin curls that almost look like you have invisible rollers in. They are great for areas where you want more volume. If I do those I normally set them at the top of my head, that way they don't get squished while I'm sleeping.

Use sponge rollers. They are made to be slept on. I don't feel them at all.

And having a soft pillow helps!

Thanks for the tip

I bought some today and have had my first ever go! I'm sitting here in rollers all tied up in a scarf :) The soft ones seem much easiers to use than vercro ones - which frankly scare me! I have visions of getting caught up in them when trying to get them out again (my hair is one length and nearly at my bottom - s othat could be messy :) )

I can't really do wet sets because the hubby would NOT go for that look for sleeping. I'm not a dominated spouse by any means... he's a sweet boy and I'll give up wet sets because he is such a nice hubby :) Hot rollers are my friend!

clara my guy has similar sentiments. He equates curlers to a guy wearing shorts with socks and sandals (we just talked about this last night). I really don't think the curlers look THAT bad. Oh well, sometimes I give them up and sometimes he's forced to see me in curlers. There's really not much I can do to cover them either, the larger rollers give me much better results than the easier to conceal pin curls.

My hair is far too long and thick to set and wrap nicely, so I usually end up looking like this when I head out of the house. There is just no looking cute when I am setting my hair. lol

Amen to that. Sponge rollers is a million times more comfortable and works just fine for mer :)

I slept in mine for the first time last night and it was fine and good! I was a bit worried as I have a back condition that means i have to sleep in odd ways with various bits of me propped up and my neck aligned (a complete pain but it does work :) ). It was fine and great no problems at all - and it looks fantastic, I'm really, really pleased with the results - so that is the wedding hair sorted - hurrah!

I have fine, very straight hair, and I went out and bought a hard bonnet dryer from Sally's so I didn't have to sleep in the pincurls. It worked great for me if you want a different option than scarves. I tried the satin scarf thing myself, but it would always slip off my head when I was sleeping, no matter how tight I wrapped it :p
