Me too! The 30s styles had a lot of unique trims and just the shapes of the clothing. Look through a Delineator magazine from that era and you'll see what I mean. (Butterwick patterns sponsored it and featured new patterns every month in it.)
Hot Sticks are the easy way to get that pin curl look. I learned about it on the Fedora Lounge. But there are many other gals here that are very adept with "real" pin curls. (Look back through this thread.)
I think it all depends on your hair type, the amount of time you want to spend on...
Snookie,
Those are just pics I grabbed off the net and printed out on card stock and just stuck up on the doors of my armoir/vanity. They're great for inspiration!
Yes, I do have bangs, kind of long-ish ones--they're down to my nose. I always roll my bangs downward toward my nose and its...
Still going strong with Hot Sticks
Not to be outdone by you lovely young ladies, I thought I'd post a picture of myself and show my hairdo done with Hot Sticks. Since my hair is very fine and thin and I don't like to sleep in curlers, this method works very well for me. I think I'm more of a...
I finally dug up hubby's (Harry Pierpont) photo from his Cub Scout soap box derby. He's the cute red head in the middle.
He was the official "driver" and wore a football helmet for protection. They raced their cars down a big hill--no engines, just gravity.
When our boys were in scouts...
Goldleaf, when I came along (many years ago), my parents had been married a little over a year and my dad had just gotten laid off from the factory. They lived in a very tiny 1 bedroom house. The warmest room was the bathroom and that's where they set up my bassinet. When I outgrew the bassinet...
My darling hubby forgot to mention that I was a cub scout den mother for two years and *note to Rooster* we did NOT carve any soap! It was quite a challenge keeping 8 boys moving in the same direction! I never did any "camping" with the boys, but the scoutmaster took them once on an overnight...
Laraquan,
I'd wear the black gloves if I were you. I wear gloves quite frequently--day and night--and I'll wear gloves that match my handbag or my shoes or even a complimentary color to my outfit. For example, I was wearing brown tones for an outfit and I wore navy gloves. Wear what makes you...
PS,
That's the same style garter belt that I have and I love mine. I'm not sure if one of mine is a 'second' because its a little smaller at the waistline than the other ones in the same size. I'll wear that one when I know it won't be an all-day thing because it will rub me sometimes. The...
Welcome, PS, the Lounge!
If you could tell me what kind of garter belt you have (I have a Rago one too), I might be able better to answer your question.
I use a metal mesh desk organizer. Its got several vertical compartments and storage areas of all sizes and the best part its not that wide. I found it at Wal-Mart for about $7. Mine's in black metal, but I did see them in silver.
I found the Lotta Body at Wal-Mart in the "Ethnic Hair Care" section. And no it doesn't make your hair "greasy". A lot of 'vintage' products are found in this section. Maybe its in this section at Walgreens too.
I've heard mixed opinions of them, although I've never used them. I bet if you did a search in this forum/thread and type in 'spoolie', you'd come up with a couple discussions on them. I know this question has been asked before.;)
Here's some of those neat wave clips!!!
Quick!--go to eBay and type in Flapper Hairstyles and you'll see two auctions for similar type of clips. (We're not allowed to post links to active eBay auctions, but typing the above in gets you to them--may have to scroll down a wee bit.)
No, there isn't any one particular material that would be appropriate, but that gloves were made in all sorts of materials. They were made in cotton (probably the most common), leather, suede, and satin and several other types of fabric. That's what makes gloves so much fun because they really...
Yes, they did. As a matter of fact, gloves were worn into the 50s. I think by the 60s it came out of vogue as the rest of society went through a major upheaval. Although, I remember my grandmother wearing gloves to church through the 1960s.
So, yes, get your black gloves. But you'll soon...
OK, Lizzie, its been over a year, did the shoes wear well? How is the toe room in these? I had my feet professionally measured recently and learned that one foot is almost a whole size larger than other one! I thought I just had wide feet. They told me to compromise with the size in between and...
