Mysterious object (possibly for cuffs or collar)

Many sewing patterns from the 1910s had collars that took a button tab. The directions call for a strip of twill tape with a button sewn on each end (shown on the second page of directions here: http://www.unsungsewingpatterns.net/2009/08/butterick-1074-mens-or-boys-negligee.html )

Also not the Hindenburg, I think that's the USS Macon ;) Definitely impressive, though, one of my favorite dirigible construction photos.

Thanks, Alan. I thought it looked familiar, but wasn't sure.

    vintage caps

The photo's not a Zep, it's the stern end of a ship. The SMS Hindenburg was a battlecruiser that was laid down in 1913, commissioned in '17, and scuttled with the rest of the German vessels at Scapa Flow in '19. There was also a German ocean liner named Hindenburg that was rechristened...

    vintage caps

At first I thought, dang, that's gonna take a lot of hydrogen... But I'm guessing it's the SMS Hindenburg, the one that was scuttled at Scapa Flow?

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

I watched "The Transatlantic Tunnel" and "Of Human Bondage" last night. The first could have been a good film. It turns out the future will be (will have been?) very stylish but also extremely melodramatic. As for the second, Bette Davis not even getting a nomination probably was one of the...

    The Vintage Tailoring Thread

I'd say a cut-through breast dart, with the pleat above the pocket making the front into two panels.

FS: Early 1950s Double Breasted Gray Suit w/ Blue Stripe

Thanks, Patrick. I'm afraid it's too long in the torso. Too bad, I need a new suit or five.

FS: Early 1950s Double Breasted Gray Suit w/ Blue Stripe

I like, but I think it's too long. Is the back length from the top or bottom of the collar?

1940s Gray 3 Piece w/ Unusual Pleated Back

Pen pocket, rare but I kind of like them. I put one on a Harris tweed waistcoat I made for a friend. The other originals I've seen also had a bit of a sag from pushing the pen clip down.

Another great piece! Fabric, fit, style all working together! You keep giving me the motivation to keep working on my stuff. I can't make a jacket as fast yet, but I've got a linen DB sitting on my table, and a 1950s silk suit I'm working on for my wife that I really need to finish!

    1920s suits

Thanks, HBK. He certainly looks pleased. I'm not a big fan of flaps on breast pockets, but they work well here.

    Formal Wear Primer

Sanforization was patented in 1930, so that gives you a hard earliest date.
