50,s Half Belts, new Aero and original:

The Aero is 25" from the collar seam to the bottom of the jacket, the original is 24 1/2". I am 5'9". Funny thing about the breast pocket is I did not notice the different angles until I looked at the side by side pictures myself, dont use them though. Thanks all for your comments...

50,s Half Belts, new Aero and original:

Received my latest Aero a couple of months ago, a 50s half belt in cordovan H/H. It’s been worn nearly every day since and I could not be more pleased with it. I also have an original 50s half belt and thought it would be an idea to share a few side by side pictures of both jackets for...

    Aero at the Banbury Run

I wore my Aero Long Half Belt to ride in this years VMCC Banbury Run. I was kindly lent the gaiters from a friend. They are a family heir loom and they are at least 100 years old. Finished off my period look a treat I think. James

Waxed Cotton Classic Motorcycling over Trousers

They arrived today and I must say I am happy with them. The cotton is a nice weight but not as heavy as the original ones but this makes them more comfortable. The side entry zip is on the other side but the zip itself is not as long, so not quite as easy to get into but still ok. They...

Waxed Cotton Classic Motorcycling over Trousers

Was looking for some traditional wax cotton waterproofs to go with my Barbour International. Barbour no longer make the traditional ones. Nor do Belstaff. I tried EBay witch resulted in some olive green internationals which are great but so small. Can’t seem to find my size. So I...

Aviation Leathercraft custom-made Irvin motorcycle jacket

That works well. And looks great. I had an Aero pre-war Irvin made with a smaller collar to wear on my RAF 1944 Norton. That works ok and the collar stays up with the half face lid. Have to say my Gauntlets only just fit over the cuffs!! Not sure if sheepskin is the toughest leather for...

    Lewis Leathers Westway Boots

I have worn mine many times on my bikes. I know they are not as protective as a modern pair of boots but I wear them because they are made in the traditional way and style. If I rode modern bikes then I would wear modern gear. My personal choice. They are comfortable and after waterproof...

    Horsehide can be pretty stiff...

When I first received my Horse Hide Aero LHB I was a little concerned over its lack if flexibility. This concern has now gone. It took quite some time to ‘break in’ but now it is much more comfortable. It seems like a totally different jacket to when it was new. Also I feel it will get...

"End Of The Season" - who's broken out their leathers?

The chillier its gets here in England the happier I am, can now start the ritual of being late for appointments due to the time it takes to decide which jacket to put on! My friends are complaining about the weather turning cooler, but I’m not. Even managed to put on my Aero Long Half Belt...

    Period Short Waist Half-Belt

I bought it via eBay two or three years ago. From memory I think it came from Canada. Usually I keep the purchase details but they seem to have gone astray. Bet some of these jackets have traveled a lot over the last 60 odd years. Then again some perhaps have hardly moved at all.

    Period Short Waist Half-Belt

This reminds me I have one of those: I paid £150.00 for mine. I am also not sure about the belt height. Will take it off the rack and wear it a while. James.

ALL REPRO R.A.F. Irvin type jackets

Wonder what ‘laminated skin’ means? Laminated means layers, so does this mean more than one layer of skin? Not sure I like the idea of that. Just had a look ay my 42 ELC and can see no evidence of layers, just the skin turned back and stitched. Or maybe he just means the skin is naturally...

Aero sleeves -- I can't sleep at night

Here are a couple if pictures of button cuffs on my LHB if it helps. I never button them up as it’s easier to put on and take off! James.

Irwin wearers - how do you...

I find I have enough pockets in a pair a jeans for what I need. If I go to work in my Irvin I wear cargo trousers but even then I don’t always use all the pockets. James.

    ELC Cable Raincoat A-2

Agreed, a spot on fit for an A2. The hide looks great. Except a cooper (which I have given away now) all my A2s are Horse, but that Eastman hide is tempting. James
