These days all that furniture is classified as "Mid Century Modern" and is priced at or above it's original cost. Most stuff that had to be thrown away because no one wanted it is now both coveted and once again in vogue.
I loved road maps. Everywhere I ever travelled, I picked them up, for free, as you well know. I always had a stack of them in my "glove compartment" when they actually were big enough to hold more than a checkbook.

As a child, it was butter and maple syrup on top. As an adult, fruit (blueberry, apple or strawberry mixed in the mixture then butter on top with appropriate fruit flavored syrup on top, or once again, plain pancakes with butter, cinnamon and maple syrup on top. Perhaps my favorite.
Three sons, all had homes furnished from items purchased at auction for little money. For the cost of a good bottle of booze, a ten piece dining room set can be purchased. Upholstered chairs and couches typically go for only a few dollars.
