Nice.
I love that tobacco color of Optimo's. One of the nicest browns I've ever seen.
I personally dig that bound edge, and the less severe bashes you've got in there.
You have some beautiful hats there! I am envious.
I too have a Royal Stetson Playboy Vitafelt. It's one of my favorites. I have another Vitafelt Stetson that's just a plain Royal Stetson, and that too is one of my favorite felts. very reminiscent of an Optimo.
Again...some really nice...
This is a great question. I'm glad you asked.
I just got a fall/winter 1948-49 Montgomery Ward catalog. Now, that's got items priced for the Average Joe. It has a decent fur felt hat selection (and interesting notes on sizing and styling), but they are all BRENT-brand. They offer Good...
I got one of those propaganda ads today...but I'm expecting a couple more, so I'll just scan 'em and post 'em all when I get everything.
I got a really classy ad for the Stetson Whippet today, too.
by the way, Fisk...which models of modern Stetson did you have that you hated so much...
Those photos are great! Thanks for posting them!
I noticed in one of those '38 Chicago photos, where it looks like they're at a theater, looks like there's a lobby card display or something at the bottom for "The Philadelphia Story."
I got a bunch of these on Ebay recently also. Some time I'll have to frame them and put them up in my office (which is why I bought them)...
I bought a bunch of weird anti-nazi propaganda Stetson ads from WWII. They're very dramatic, and pretty neat. If anyone is interested, I'll scan some...
You got yourself a winner. I like your specs, too.
And you get extra bonus cool points for the Hudsucker Proxy quote. I don't know if it was always there or not - but I just noticed it. One of my all-time favorite movies, ever.
Sorry for the delay. I was out of town.
Sadly, I lucked out on my frames. They are 1940s American Optical frames, and they were made for the coal miners in Pittsburgh in the early forties. They look like normal glasses but they're a lot heavier and more sturdy - supposedly they were safety...
I know I'll be seeing some of you folks Tuesday in LA. But I couldn't wait to show you the brown Cavanagh I finally got back from the hatter today (they attached a new sweatband and ribbon for me, after I reblocked it with Fedora's size 7 block).
Maybe my favorite hat, ever:
You're a lucky man...
I've spent some time in the hotel recently. It's really falling apart, which is a shame. As is it, the Cocoanut Grove was completely gutted and "renovated" in 1969 in an attempt to stay "current" and attract younger, hipper clientele as well as have more Vegas-style...
The sweatband is sewn directly into the felt...which is a little sad, as it's coming apart in a few places. The hatter here claims they might be able to save it, but it will have to all be done by hand and they said it would probably take a while.
That is indeed the address of Stetson's...
