This is not a quiz - I have no idea what era this Stetson is from. It had no liner (I suspect it did have one originally), and the sweatband had an imprint I've never seen in a Stetson before. Looks incredibly old to me, though. Here are some photos (it's the last two on the page)...
Beside hats, one of my other big obsessions is with the long-closed Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. Once the hub of Hollywood nightlife in the Golden Age, it now sits like a forboding bag lady on Wilshire Blvd.
My point is, there was a men's shop in there (The London Shop), and I've seen...
thanks!
It's been reblocked since then (it was waaaay too small for me and I had to reblock it or I would not have been able to wear it), and now it needs a thinner black ribbon because I lost a little crown height and the proprtions don't look quite right.
But it's a great hat. I think I...
Art, I would love to think that the size of the clear beaver is a typo on your site - it says 7-1/4. A little too big for me (believe me, I'm stuck with a 7-1/4 Cavanagh that's too big for me as well).
Thanks for the kind words regarding the Cavanagh. I'll measure the crown height when it gets back from having the ribbon and sweatband installed (the ribbon is just sitting on there in that awful photo).
The thanks goes to Fedora for that hat. His block is the reason that hat looks so...
I feel like I see a lot more C-dents in old movies and photos than I do center dents...in fact, I feel like it's kind of rare to see the dent in films. For some reason, I still block most of my hats with the center dent.
I should start doing more with the C-crown...I do have a couple which...
The band is a very unusual shade, a dark reddish-brown. I'll try to get some new shots of it later this week.
Speaking of new arrivals...my Knox Twenty arrived today, and it is the nicest felt I have ever touched, hands-down. It's very comparable to my lightweight Cavanagh (if indeed it is...
Thanks, Zohar. That hat fits me better than almost any I own. Guess it helps to not have some else do the breaking in for you.
I added a few photos of the old 1930s Wells fargo hat rack I use in my house at the bottom of my photos page.
a few more hats I managed to snag:

You can see my New Old Stock Mallory there, as well as my Stetson Playboy, the Stetson Custom V, and the Mallory Fifteen. UPS claims my Knox Twenty is to be delivered today. If it shows up...
These photos aren't so great. I took them in a hurry. But I wanted to share.
here is a taupe-colored Cavanagh I just got. It's a tad small for me, but it breaks my heart to tear it apart to reblock it. What do you folks think about those hat-stretchers? Anyway, it came completely mauled...
an interesting thing
I just took my Royal Stetson Deluxe all apart for reblocking purposes...the liner was taped in (and this was very old tape), and I couldn't find any signs of it having been sewn in. OK - weirder still, I found the little red-and-white tag which calimed it was made by...
