Hal, I guess it depends on the social occasions you attend. I've been to a few that fit what you describe. But mostly I see the "why are you dressed up" reactions. On a certain level, I wish it were different. But that world is in the past. We can hope it's in the future. At...
Intriguing. I just saw something like that in an old (and unidentified) movie the other day. I was thinking; is it a newsboy or a flat cap? It was tweed, though.
It's along shot, but you can't loose anything by it. Play it off as your own absent-mindedness and somebody might reconsider. Maybe a paper note posted in break room or outside your office would something would also be good, too. Cleaning crews and such are often out of the email loop, and...
Indeed. Many don't realize how different the UK and US can be in terms of clothing culture (not to mention the rest). Here in the US, one of the easiest ways to "overdress" is to wear a tie. At least in my neck of the woods.
I'm going to take a wild guess and say that, like many American...
Purely a matter of personal taste.
Actually, I find that a tie makes me much hotter than a jacket. It must have something to do with how ventilation occurs. [huh]
Hey, we're talking style here, not politics. The best dressed army in the world were the Nazi's, regardless of their...
Going without a tie in a jacket is a great way to look casual, be comfortable, and still be well dressed. Especially in summer or in warmer indoor areas. Nobody looks classy dripping with sweat and turning red. It's a choice that even the best dressed men in history have turned to from time...
 Are you a regular hat wearer? Like a serious regular hat wearer? I put on a lid to take out the trash, dude! I don't leave home without a hat, no matter how little it will be worn.
Plus, the wedding could be outside, or not a church wedding. All new possibilities come into play...
Hey, I've been thinking about one of those, due to the very rainy summer we've been having (I'm wearing felt at least once a week - unheard of for me in the summer).
Anyone know if the chin strap is removable?
I think this is a great idea! (As long as Art doesn't end up losing for all his hard work, of course.) Now, what did I do with that crate full of old hats.... :whistling
Herein lies the second edge of "not dressing like Indiana Jones." What if your style, left free to develop as it will, turns out to be reminiscent of Indiana Jones? By avoiding that look, you deny yourself at that point.
In the end, wearing anything that is not part of the standard...
I can't be sure, but I think upstate NY is pretty dry when it comes to hat shops. Not that there are many left anywhere else. Your interest in Akubra makes it even harder. There aren't many US dealers around.
Many of us have been in your position, including me. Eventually, I just had to...
Let's be honest, shall we. Regardless if we talk hats or some other clothing item, quality can only go so high. Price, it seems, has no limit. I can't criticize Baron's in terms of quality, because I just have no personal experience with them. But having had the experience of many different...
I do believe you mean "Some can see better with it up!" lol
Concerning Mr. Truman, I do believe he knew what suited him best. I'm hard pressed to picture him with a snapped down brim.
I would say that face shape and forehead height have a bit to do with it as well. It is very hard for me to get away with an up-turned brim on any style hat.
To clarify, I don't mean sandy as in tan or brown sandy. Art's silverbelly is a nice earthy gray. I guess I really mean the visual texture seems sandy. Does that make any sense?
