Actually.... "crushable" varies in definition. More info on the hat would clarify. Some hats can be crushed, but would not survive rolling or tight packing very well. Other would. Some hats are made specifically to be rolled, not flattened, and vice verse.
Ah. I knew there was a thread like this. I wondered where it had gone off to. :eusa_doh:
Not to be ungrateful, gents, but I did say that the vintage and budget routes had yielded nothing. Which is to say, my shoe size is not an easy fit for most vintage (at least that I have found), and...
I think "damage" or "ill effects" would not be a correct term, but there is an effect to leaving the brim snapped down. Odds are, you'll never notice or care if that's the way you always wear your hat.
However, over time (how long probably depends on the specific felt) the brim will "learn"...
A proper 7 1/2 should be 23.5 inches. Dobbs straws usually run .25 over, but they do shrink a little with time.
Anyway, Anj. Give me until noon tomorrow to stew it over, please. If you don't hear from me by then, do as you will. ;)
Spectator Search
Well, this is not the first time I've tried my hand at finding spectator style shoes. So far I have exhausted the "budget" route, and the vintage route.
Now I'm aiming for something between $100 and $200. Many of the large size spectator wing tips I have found have the...
I can't really tell the colors. Looks like bone-colored straw with gray and taupe striped ribbon. Am I even close?
Also, this might sound like a wierd question, but did you measure the brim on the side or the front? Because I have a Dobbs that looks similar, but I get different...
Well said, Hem.
Actually, no. Which is funny, because we were both members here, but never crossed posts at all.
After a year here, I join Club Obi Wan as well to learn more about Steve Delk. I ended up involved in their annual NY summits because I needed to get away and the timing was...
lol lol lol Only on the lounge...
Thank you everyone. We have started our research, and looks very complicated. But I think I'm just going to go visit a government office and get things explained, rather than trying to read legalese.
To answer your question, MLong;
On the lady, we...
Wow. That liner really defies the overall condition of the hat.
I know nothing about Wormsers, but the $10 price puts it 1950's or earlier by my guess. [huh]
If I may be so bold, send that puppy to Art Fawcett for a restoration! His love and respect for vintage, his skills, and the...
There is a third truth that should be added, Dewhurst.
Sometimes what we want can only be gotten through a custom hatter, because modern manufacturers do not offer what we seek.
It does not invalidate what you say, but maybe explains why so many lean on the first truth, wether they...
The mismatched ribbon treatment is not uncommon. I see it quite often on vintage lids, as well as custom jobs produced by member hatters here. Some people like, some don't. [huh]
My first custom hat was that way, and I love the 'not quite matched' look. It's sort of like the idea of...
There are shorter waits to be had out there, but the simple fact is this; anything of quality made custom can potentially have a hefty wait time, especially with a one-man operation. It's realistic, and no doubt based on numerous factors - demand being one of them.
In the end, the real...
I always kind of liked this hat, but never liked the price. I imagine the sizes are based on current stock, because I've seen a 7 5/8 in person just recently. For $70, not bad. Maybe it's time.
Well, I've been a absent from this thread for quite a while, mainly distracted by my NEW FIANCE! :D But I will be taking a look back at all the great hats I've missed.
I also thought I would post some of my recent lid choices that didn't get posted due to being more-or-less off-line.
This...
Happy news! I am engaged now, to my girlfriend, Stella. Some of you will remember her as Canyon, a mostly-absent member of this very forum (among others).
What's so complicated? Well, she lives on another continent. Plans are forming to change that in the near future, but as many probably...
