I say go with the second patch too - more iconic of the P-51 era too. Nice font, love the checks and it looks more like a P-51 restoration project patch to me.
Wow! I love it! Just when I'd said last week that I'd not go for another ELC A2 …!!! Never say never, as they say.
That's gorgeous. Love those hues … and it just looks so right to me. ELC look to have nailed it perfectly.
Thanks for the comprehensive review and posting! Very much appreciated.
I'm all for wearing a jacket in all weathers as often as possible - wearing them them the way they were intended. I wore an Aviation Leathercraft A2 for 18 years and was caught in a good few downpours in that time and was always astonished by it being completely waterproof! And no, it never...
Sorry for the delay - been away in UT for a week in the mountains. Man, what a beautiful state !!!
The liners I use are silk - I bought another pair whilst I was in UT at a ski gear shop for $25. Marvellous.
I have a pair of the Aero gloves and no, as stated already, they're not lined.
I chose to go one size up so I could wear them with a thin pair of warm glove liners, and they're amazing in even the coldest of temps - and the manual dexterity with them is surprisingly excellent. I mean, I can tie...
Indeed - and home was up on the highest of those hills at Lodge Moor. Windy much? It's the only place where one of my contact lenses was actually blown out!
A great progression there, Spitfire and the final result is indeed a fine winner - and good photos along the way! Thanks for posting! (and all in stark contrast to another recent thread about A2s where we were asked which was the best - he got them all, saw them all and didn't keep one. No...
You'd need that jacket for the Land Warfare Museum at Duxford too - I was in there one September as I was there for the air show and wore my then A2 from ELC - and jinkies, it was sooooo cold in there! In September! I think all the metal from all those tanks just sucked any heat out of the...
As for the re-soling on my ELC boots, it was a must. As I said, they were devilishly slippery in wintry conditions and shovelling snow was an especially ridiculous state of affairs in them - as it wasn't possible to get any resistance when driving the shovel; I'd push the shovel and it would...
I normally just look blankly as they drolly amuse themselves, and I stand there looking completely uncomprehending … and then when they've finished, I look blankly - and then I give them a look as though a penny's just dropped and I startle myself and I say "OH! It's the jacket, right?! Ohhhh...
Welcome to the Lounge, mate.
And firstly, I think that's a great looking A2, if you ask me!
And secondly, I'd say that you can't go making that Hulk Hogan move in an A2 - or in any A2 - and expect to judge anything by it. All A2's will feel tight across the shoulders and back if you do that in...
You wear them all well, Spitfire! (Great silk scarf too!). I love the look - even the "olde sepia photo" lends the perfect final detail !!! I love the look, don't get me wrong. But let's face it - go in a pub wearing the full ensemble and it'd be asking to get the "Where'd you park your bomber...
I know, it's pretty wicked out there today, eh?! My N3-B sailed through it on thew walk in to work though - I was toasty in it with my ELC C-3 under it, ELC B-2 cap under the hood and Buzz A-10 gloves in those pile-lined pockets. Just perfect. Blanket-lined joy! Man, I love this jacket!
And another recent shot. Here it is with the NOS vintage Talon zip that replaced the Aero zip (which, as I'm more than happy to say, worked perfectly, ran as smooth as butter and I had no issues with whatsoever - I just wanted something more authentic to the 1943 era and aura of the jacket).
Well, I have a light/regular frame too (when I watched Captain America with my girlfriend and they put Steve Rogers in the machine in the lab and the door opens and suddenly he's all buff, my girlfriend sat up and clapped like a seal saying "Oooh! We have to get one of those for you!". LOL), and...
I had a pair of the 1936 pattern boots that were made for ELC in the late 1980s - just one of 48 pairs! I got them as I'd just got my first Irvin (by Aviation Leathercraft) and felt I wanted a pair at the time to go with it - and the boots were perfect reproductions (made in Northampton on the...
Nicely done - and not overdone. Just perfect! And it has true meaning to you personally and now there's not another jacket like yours anywhere in the world. I love that.
