It's true, it is a mental jolt. Once upon a time, I would have agreed with you 100%, Big J. I'd have scoffed and said it was all nonsense as my logical mind would have demanded definite proof …
And then, when I was around 21 or so, things started happening around me - things I heard, then...
That is one serious jacket you there. That's a man's jacket alright! Looks particularly sensational from the back. You must be over the moon with it … it's worn in beautifully.
No epaulettes IMO. The jacket's busy enough with the pockets and belt and just doesn't need them.
I hope Revenue Canada gives you everything you're due …!
You see, that's why I love this place. I mean, really. What better example can there be of someone needing some good, authentic and instant help? Done!
Good one, Sloan.
If it was my prized vintage A2, I'd send it to Alexander Leathers and ask for it to be done by Edith. She made my Aero ANJ-3 and her skills are stunning. Later she added the leather patches and name tag , changed the zip to a vintage NOS Talon and replaced the knits - and there's absolutely no...
Man, that's a beautiful jacket, Carlos. Really nice - and it fits you perfectly! Great choice on the colour of the lining too!
So it's a real shame to hear about the construction woes … and personally, if it was me, I'd let AL do the repairs; but I'd be sure in letting them know in no uncertain...
I noticed the placement of the CBI patch on the right sleeve of your A2 and the AAF on the left sleeve - and thought it looked irregular to me.
So I've just checked and looked through my copy of "Art of the Flight Jacket" (Jon Maguire & John Conway) and noted that, of the 16 examples of vintage...
Do I still have my old A2 ? Well, bits of it, yes.
A piece of sleeve and the back panel! The sleeves I kept to paint a leather patch with. The back panel was mounted in an Italian frame and hangs in my bathroom over my toilet!
We all know about the German V2 rockets and how they were used to such devastating effect against Allied targets in London - but what about the R&D stages and the test-launches? Where did they fire them to assess their effectiveness? I know I'd never thought about it before ...
These very rare...
Oh, I'm not going to argue with you, HD, or anyone in the US who even chooses to ride without a helmet. It's your absolute right, regardless of what is sensible and I respect that 100%. Honest.
Me - I'd want some carbon fibre in the jacket. Life is short - but may feel much longer in a...
It's not expensive if you can do it yourself … and you don't have to go the whole hog with a challenging pin-up girl - just lettering in a 1940s font would do it and that's not too difficult. Something to think about.
And you're most welcome! I just wish my first A2 (that I wore for 18 years)...
I agree. To say it's put in all those years of service and still looks well, I'd say it doesn't owe you anything!
To me, I often think of what a jacket needs to finish it off - a name tag, original patches, nose/pin-up/jacket art etc - and purely IMHO, I'd be thinking of adding something to...
