don't complain too loudly...a hat softer than my pocket Borsalino?? hmmm-I'd like one of those, please. Understand about the sweat, doesn't take the onus of responsible description from the seller, also the color-but all in all,
I think you kinda hit a solid triple at the price; If it happens...
Howdy folks! just thought I'd let all you fine small-headed guys (& gals)
know that there's a Stetson Playboy on OFAS right now with a ridiculously
low BIN price...size stated as 6 7/8; ck vintage hats.
this has been a public service announcement:rolleyes:
terrific job, all the way around:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap
I've just picked out my next West goes East project, a Vintage Royal Stetson
in a light, misty gray, white ribbon the crown is shorter than most, as is the brim, so it should be an easy tranition ( darn. cursed myself...
Bud-just pulling on yr ear about bunk. I'd use a lot stronger than that...but
back to hat stretching- you took a 7 up to a 7 3/8? last time I tried over
2 sizes the hat ended up in pieces. Howdya doit??[huh]
I've got a steel-gray Whippet with lighter gray brim edging, and a black ribbon; bought it perfect, wear it maybe 3 times a yr. keep it in da box.
Vintage piece-50's according to the sales slip that came with it (!)
and smmmooooth / crisp at the same time; really holds the snap-brim...
Maj.Danger- I'm no expert by any means, I just have stretched a few (many)
hats with mine. The first lesson I learned is that the sweatband will leave a mark of it's impression on the felt, if you leave the sweat in; if you do, you'd better lexol the daylights out of it, otherwise it'll curl...
I've got one- wasn't in the best of shape, and lost it's cord, but...
if you use plenty of steam on the inside of the hat, crank it just tight enough
for the hat to fit , hit it with more steam (helps to have a "Jiffy Steamer"),
quickly slip it on the form and then crank it quickly...
very nice indeed, having the Nutria quality embossed on the sweat. That little
number would cost a pretty penny today-IF you could possibly find the felt
and the hatter...closest I know of is Rich Rand, and he charges a bit; and you won't get those sleek lines, or the softened felt, either...
I've got a pile of Westerns. Most of them will be going to the block-starting with a Bailey 100X in a 7 3/8, NWT amazing hat; lotsa Stetsons, most decent vintage NOS, Resistols, etc. If anyone's got an interest in larger sizes(7 3/8-
7 1/2), and all in lighter colors, please PM me or email me...
Rooster- that hat's perfect on you!! seen lot's of folks trying to pull that off-
and you do it with such ease-feels great when you see someone who
"gets it" and doesn't squawk about it . GREAT!!:eusa_clap :eusa_clap
