Love this mix too, but I wonder if it's not a bit too "high visibility". That's why I was guessing about the seal/caramel combo.
Damn, I need mo' money!
What a nice looking A-2! The round collard is really great, so is the trim cut. The 1756 and the 38-1711 are, in my opinion, the best looking A-2.
Would love to see how those caramel knits are doing with seal HH, could be a nice contrast.
No problem, lots of fields around the house, and the lady is not against rocket science! :-D And man, I love your idea of a frame mounted display with pictures of the original!
Stand By, that's a helluva nice office! I haven't built model kits for like 10 years, but your talking about them...
Looks great!! And as Stand By said, it's good that you weren't discouraged to patch your jackets! I'll be glad to see how these end up.
As for Schaeffert not having a wiki page, well, we all know actors and football players are more important than war heroes, right...? Cannot even start to...
This guy pulled out one helluva fight on that famous day! I wonder what the outcome may have been if his gun hadn't jammed, and his Sidewinders had been more reliable. Do you have an artwork in your mind, or just the Brown Bear markings?
Hadn't seen it yet! I have the book on my amazon wishlist, though!
As for 13 Days, if you're interested in the subject, there's another good read I'd recommend, it's "Blue Moon over Cuba". The author, Kenneth Jack, is the PH2 I was talking about in my previous post. The book covers all...
You're welcome! I just finished the second book in the serie yesterday, and it was pretty great. I much prefered the first one, but the second is still good.
Yep, I've read "On Yankee Station", that was a great read too. Learned a couple things about the tactics used by the Navy back then...
Aaaaah, indeed, Chuck DeBellevue. I don't know, personally, I think I won't go with the name of a famous veteran, but that's my 2 cents. Maybe you should read the "Rolling Thunder" books by Mark Berent and pick up a character's name!
What kind of a name is that? :p
But yeah, as on the Buzz Rickson's jackets, a fictional name would work great, I think. You'd still have the neat name tag, while not look like you pretend to be a real fighter pilot, or to impersonate a war hero.
Someone here came up with a nice idea here, which is putting another name than yours on your name tag. Would look a lot less much like bragging if it's not even your name on it ;-)
If I'd have to patch a flight jacket with a name tag, I think I'll go with the display name I've used for more...
The L2 is the early version, late 40's specs, with olive drab shell and lining, leather oxygen mask tab, brown leather pull tabs, OD knits and so on. The L2B is the latest one, with sage green shell and lining, nylon tab, black leather pull tabs, sage/OD knits, according to the later...
Just realized something that makes a big difference, in my eyes. I'm living in Belgium, if I'd wear a jacket with USAF/Navy/Army patches or whatever on it, I could never be mistaken for a US soldier! :D
