The first one was plastic and the replacement is glass. I think it took a bit of time for the guy to find the right glass - it was a bit of a labour of love. It is apparently not a standard size. The watch was fixed (had a few mechanical issues) and glass replaced for about $200 Aust. Dollars...
I had exacly the same problems with my Benrus face as Doug C. Luckily I had mine into a watch repair place asap. The guy who fixed it said that the works were very high quality swiss however the whole thing had been let down by a poor quality case and glass. Glass has been replaced buy something...
Welcome to the safty shaving club. I think it takes about 6 weeks of practice to get it right. I'd highly recommend Leisureguy's Guide to Gourmet Shaving as an instructional book. Good information.
Also have a look at The Art of Man as a good site for Merkur safety razors (I have a Merkur...
The issue that ended my wife and I going down the Morrie path. We saw allot of really lovely cars that we were very much in love with.. however each seller would end with a long list of 'things to keep an eye on' or even worse 'things that will need replacing soon'. Being of the Wooster school...
Pretty different - so its probably just the photo's. The Whippet is significantly darker - more like daizawaguy's photo.
I'd agree with daizawaguy the quality is about the same. All Akubras always start out pretty stiff and soften up after a bit of use.
Not really. They are basically the same hat and the same bash, I think they are in the process of phasing out the Hampton - its getting harder to find. Akubra seems to do this on occasion. One of my favourite hats in the early 90's was the Warwick - a hat that survived a good 10 years of neglect...
Agreed - good to see this redressed!
Hampton Regency Fawn (Bad Movember Mo included)
Hampton Cruiser Grey
Whippet Carbon Grey
The Whippet seems lighter in the first photo than reality. My preferred hat at present.
City Hatters / Smart Alec Expedition
After reading these posts I felt it was time for an exploration:
Day one - Day before Christmas. Today's objective - City Hatters. After a traverse of the Bourke St Mall cravasse (lost Wilkinson, Tooky and some of the bearers) we achieved base camp in...
Local boys thoughts...
I've been going there off an on since the late 80's and the current crop is interesting. When I first went there as a late teenager they really took the time to talk to me about hats, hat care and what would suit me. Recently I have had pretty similar experiences to...
I've generally gone a linen cap and light pants. Every now and then David Jones carries a few Milana Linen caps at pretty good price. I also think the shorts in an appropriate vintage cut are pretty good for a weekend with a good short sleeve shirt.

Lots more in Melbourne, Australia. Dress hats as well as the modern... things!... I've also seen a bowler and a few Homburgs this year. I generally spot at least one dress hat a lunch break.
The impact seems to have been pretty low in Australia - other than some opportunistic laying off of staff from some companies! Its actually changed my shopping habits - a friend sent through some data on what it does to the economy when we buy from overseas and the environmental impact of the...
Does get Humid in Melbourne (as a bone in the hair native I speak with some authority). I agree with the comment about why we wear hats in Australia. The sun is diabolical, regardless of season, so felts and straws are essential. So much so Akubra had their hats rated for sun protection.
As a...
Thanks guys! Great to have the help. Thanks Tuppence for the extra pressure.
I've also printed a few flyers and dropped them in a few of my local Cafe's and will see if Antons is willing to have a few.
Also popping in a membership to the Art Deco & Modernism Society. Its awful to see our...
Save Lonsdale House
Wondering if you guys could take the time to help save a bit of Melbourne's Art Deco history. There s a proposal to demolish Lonsdale House. The building is in definite need of love but doesn't need to be destroyed.
Please take the time to sign the online petition and...
I'm a fan of http://everythingaustralian.com.au/. Service has been pretty good and price is competitive. Not sure what international sales are like but I haven't seen anything bad about them.
