    "Can streetcars save America's cities?" ~ cnn.com

I saw a documentary on Portland and they talked about this. My memory may be faulty but I think they put street cars on bus routes. This utilized existing infrastructure and made the property along the line more valuable (harder to move a street car line than a bus line). This actually created...

    "Can streetcars save America's cities?" ~ cnn.com

Here in Melbourne we have The worlds largest streetcar (tram in the local dialect) network. It is fantastic to be able to get around so easily but, best of all, many of the stops have been there for over 100 years. Shops and infrastructure are all in tune with stops - so much so I have to think...

    Questian for you Australian forumers....

That's odd. Mine definitely had a normal ribbon and bound edge. They must have done different versions.

    Questian for you Australian forumers....

Not surprised if that's the case. I started wearing hats in about 1990 so could easily be an older style. It was a shame they stopped -great hat!

    Questian for you Australian forumers....

The hat was issued by Akubra in the early to mid 90's so it's a bit of a classic. I think they stopped making the hat prior to 2000 at the latest. It is a great hat - a nice mid point between the Hampton and the Style Master. I had a version that was very much treasured for some 10+ years before...

Hum - I think I might need a Commonwealth enclave for those who are polite and prefer to be very much unarmed. Something a fair distance from all the gunsel's. Afterall - a gun ruins the line of ones suit!

    The Antipodean thread

I always tell my staff that casual Friday is no more and that its now 'formal Friday' - topper, spats and canes essential. Needless to say the unwashed are often left bewildered - to quote "What's 'spats'?" So for me Friday is at least the best suit, the sharpest lid and the best examples of...

    The Antipodean thread

Yes - dropped into city hatters - there was a chap there doing the needful with hat in one hand and tie in the other. Guided and advised by some very helpful staff to something not too silly. The place was packed!

    Unaltered 1920s Aussie Californian Bungalow

I like the organ in the corner. Would be a useful shot for a thread on "When good generations go bad". There is something about that generation, as it entered the 1960's, when they added touches to their homes that turned sublime into suburban. The leather Jason recliner is another - pre...
