Quick related question. I'm heading to Paris latter this year and thought I'd buy a hat while I was there (surprise! surprise!). Are there any great old hat shops people would recommend?
Odd - I pay my subscription by PayPal. I've set it up to automatically kick off each year when its due.
I hope other Lounge members help out - be awful to see "The Chap" go the same way as "Classic Style"
Thanks for pointing this out. I would have missed it. Donation winging its way from Australia as I type.
Another thought to help save The Chap is to buy a friend a subscription as a present. What could be better than to help an uneducated ruffian become a sartorial swami?
Great idea for a thread. Might also be worth mentioning a few Lounge threads focusing on Australia.

Travellers Apparel in Melbourne
All - just got a note in the mail that my Tailor Travellers Apparel (see above for an example) is having a sale from the 7th of May through to the 16th. Worth getting down there. I had two suits made recently and am very satisfied. Personally going to get a nice...
Agree on the Australia front. Lots more in Melbourne - especially in summer. Fedora's are about more this year as we move into winter. Its interesting - I started wearing mine into work more often and after a few months 2 guys in my area have followed suit. I agree that the more people who wear...
I find this a pretty interesting thread. A few years ago I was attacked by about 6 guys in a park and had a number of teeth knocked out and my palet broken. Oddly I was trying to avoid a confrontation - it was just that these guys wanted to punch someone. So after a few years reflection and $13k...
I must have instinctively known it was Tweed day. Wore the Tweed suit on Friday. The fibers must have called to me as I opened the wardrobe that morning. Spooky!:)
1. Why do you wear a fedora of all hats, what does it mean to you?
I wear one because I stand out without being showy and it makes sense to wear one from a health perspective (keeps you warm and keeps the sun off)
2. What made you want to wear the hat?
Started when I was young due to a...
Great read! I used to watch Snub on ABC in the 70's/80's and was always kinda chuffed that he was an Australian in Hollywood way back then. Didn't know about the others. Thanks!
I've got an Akubra Jive and Jive Master. Both great hats. Leather sweatband means they stay pretty cool. The Jive master is some sort of treated Straw and the Jive is polypropylene. Looks great as far as I'm concerned and are both pretty breezy on a hot day. I prefer them to my panama (does that...
Hoorah! Well done! I'm sure Kevin 07 would approve! Boo Yah to rescue packages let headwear and style show the way!
Quite inspired me - off to City Hatters for a browse tomorrow and my tailor on the weekend.

Tweeds
A quick question of cap protocol. I've heard that if you are wearing tweeds the cap should be of a different pattern/ colour. ie - they shouldn't match. Does anyone know if this is correct?
I wore a hat at University pretty solidly then sort of drifted away from it for some reason. I never felt that self conscious about it then but when I came back it 5 or 6 years ago - I did. I think it must have been all my indoctrination as a clone consultant! I eased back into hat wearing with...
Probably so - didn't feel like it at the time as there were a number of "off-limit" words that don't seem so problematic these days. As a lad I once helped my grandfather shear some sheep and still haven't used up the store of expletives I learnt that day! His everyday expletive was "blast" one...
