It does seem like sources for good women's leather jackets are scarce. I've often wondered why the major manufactures such as Aero don't offer more for the ladies. Good luck with your search.
Welcome to the Lounge. If you have a chance you should stop by and check out Thurston Brothers. The shop is small but packed with great leather jackets. They are usually open on the weekends and Carrie is always fun to chat with.
As for the Blue Moon, it's been a few years since I attended...
I was considering dropping in to see Carrie at Thurston Brothers and I started wondering how many of my fellow loungers live in the Seattle area. Assuming that I'm not alone here in the great Pacific NW any interest in a Seattle area meet up?
I know the feeling. Here in the Pacific NW we're having the warmest winter in decades. Mid February and everyone's walking around in T-shirts.
I'll try to get some pics and get it posted in the classifieds shortly.
I picked the B-2 up from another member a few years ago and while I love the jacket it's just a bit too big for me. It's labeled a 44 but fits more like a 46. With that said I've decided it should go to make room in the closet for my new LW ANJ-4. If the fit was better I'd keep both but this...
It's definitely a solid/heavy jacket. The sheepskin and goat trim are great quality but the the goat is a bit lifeless/dull in character. The workmanship is also incredible and with the exception of a few wobbles in the seams along the top of the cuffs it's near perfect. Unfortunately it...
Thanks John. I know it's a matter of personal preference but I thought I'd ask you opinion. Here in the states the price difference is only a few hundred dollars so the Aero is only about 30% less. While not insignificant it's not really a game changing amount once you decided to pull the...
John,
Both the Aero and the LW ANJ-4 sound like great jackets, however, now that you've reviewed both which one do you prefer? Obviously the Aero has a significant price advantage but in terms of the sheepskin/trim, design, fit. comfort, etc. does either still stand out?
Thanks Big J. I'm looking forward to its arrival next week (delayed by the snow) but I have to admit that I'm still having a hard time believing that I pulled the trigger on this one.
Thanks for the response. However if the surface of a B-3 had an acrylic coating, as mentioned in other threads, and the coating is capable of protecting the sheepskin from rain, chemicals, gasoline, etc. how can the conditioner get through it to nourish the leather below?
In reading through the various threads here at TFL I've seen a lot of references to the type of finish coatings used on the Irvin and B-3 jackets. From what I've read the B-3's used an acrylic finish and they do not appear to age as well as the Irvin jackets. What type of finish was used on...
In speaking with Stuart he won't admit that the change in stiffness was driven by costumer requests. He is adamant that the change was simply made to make the finish more authentic and closer to the originals.
I spent many years with a single leather jacket that I wore everywhere but these days I try to keep it down to five.
1. Short Vanson leather jacket for spring and cool summer evenings.
2. 3/4 length Aero Hudson for work/everyday
3. Heavy winter coat (rarely used here in the pacific NW)
