in light of Brettafett's report (which is why TFL is such a good learning resource!), if you're dead set on an ELC jacket and if you have the time for one day, I'd now agree with him for a day return train ticket out to Ivybridge. And he's right - the rolling Devon countryside is lovely.
As you're regularly 3600 miles away (just like me), but suddenly will be in range of just a matter of a few miles, I'd recommend holding off on HPA and having a good look around the store in London. As Greg says, there's no substitute for trying jackets on in-person, and who knows, you may spot...
I don’t know about the Thunderbay but there’s a fleece-lined Longshoreman that’s always caught my eye ... so go up with an open mind and a healthy credit card. :)
Yes, the difference between ELC’s 1940 Irvin and the 1942 pattern is in the number of panels and colours. So it’s really just a matter of preference.
And having worn my bulky old AL Irvin for so long, when my first ELC Irvin showed up,I was shocked by how much lighter it was, because the fleece...
PS. And then I got my ELC Irvin ... and an ELC 352nd A2 to replace and upgrade my old Aviation Leathercraft A2 which I'd bought the year after my Irvin in 1988. You'd think that would be enough.
And then I liked their B-6 and got one. And a C-2 vest. And a RW B-3. And others. Then I discovered...
Good day Cameron, and welcome to the lounge.
As MeachamLake says, "if you can live with the flaws" - well, it should be noted that the Irvin IS a flawed design - for peacetime, pub-hopping in temperate climates or traipsing the shopping malls. Remember that it was designed for keeping aircrew...
When I ordered an ANJ-3 from Aero, it came with their standard A2 cotton lining - which I'll admit didn't impress me as much as the rest of the other elements of the jacket. The jacket was too small, so I asked for the replacement to be made with a lining of something else. I considered...
My wife-like-person in my life doesn't understand my thing for jackets - or associated gloves/caps etc. She also thinks that there being even a forum here for such things is very weird and doesn't like me on it. At all! She says that my jackets "age" me as they're all 1940s/1950s era and that I...
I'm so glad they look okay to you, Nick! To me it looks like I'm barnstorming in a Boeing Stearman! And then I would be using the Sick Sacks!
Thanks a lot for all your invaluable help, Nick, and making this thread entirely possible! You're a star!
Not an Irvin but Irvin-related and hopefully of interest, here's an item made by the Irving Airchute Company that I hadn't seen before:

And next to them on the website are these and it's interesting to see the "Teddy" liner that I...
Thanks for posting the images, Nick!
It should be noted that I was NOT flying upside down! I don't know why the images came out that way (it must be an Apple thing! I'm a PC guy and I used my new iPhone SE and have no clue how to edit Apple images!). If any bartender can fix, please do!
Thanks...
Welcome to this section of the bar, Greg, and I’m glad to see you’re well attired! Indeed, the Star fits you like it was made for you. I’m glad you’re so happy and your experience was so good - and as for the great jacket, it’s going to get a lot of wear!
Wear it in good health and you can...
Thanks very much to all for the very kind comments. I'm very glad that this thread has been enjoyed ...!
I just looked and realized that I have some extra photos from my new iPhone and if I can get them to Nick, will ask him to add them ... and one is the view from the rear gunner position. Wow!
Indeed! And when I was up close to the Lancaster in Hamilton, I was amazed at how thin the metal skin was - it was like tin and obviously offered no protection at all from all the flak and cannon fire! Amazing bravery.
My girlfriend showed me this link last night - I'd not seen it before...
Hi DD,
The aircraft you saw was their Beechcraft Expeditor - yours to fly in for a whopping $80! (plus the price of a year's membership to CWHM - it's members only. You get discount in the gift shop with that too).

It must have been so gratifying...
Funnily enough, Big J, about your comment about snagging my jacket in there, when I was at the museum shop afterwards, one of the things I picked up was the Blu-Ray of “Reunion Of Giants”; the documentary about the flight of the Canadian Lancaster across the Atlantic and it’s visit to the UK.
I...
