Thanks Rick. Your hat in the photos above looks fantastic. I really like that type of Resistol liner. They feel and look like a better quality of material than the Stetson liners of the same era.
I don't specifically look for them but when I run across a hat from a store in my hometown it definitely increases my interest in the hat. I have a Resistol western hat from a long gone western wear store that my Dad used to take me to buy jeans and boots as a kid. The hat is not really...
It may have had something to do with the failure of Nutria farms. Here is a quote from the Wikipedia article on Nutria (Coypu).
"Local extinction in their native range due to overharvesting led to the development of coypu fur farms in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The first farms...
Rick,
I don't have a vintage Nutria but I have a Winchester body Nutria from Art Fawcett and it is tough as nails. It handles the rain better than any beaver hat I own. I would think vintage Nutria would be just as durable and maybe even more so.
If I remember correctly, you have an Akubra...
My LBJ hat is a 3X Beaver Wide Country. It has a special liner too with an outline of Texas and LBJ Ranch in his own handwriting. These are the only Resistols I can remember seeing with an outline of Texas imprinted on the liner.
Rick
I can't help you with the timing but I always thought the city names were just a marketing ploy and the hats were probably made around the same time but sent to different areas. That is just a guess on my part.
I also thought the Resistol hats were named for Texas cities. However, I...
You could always buy a plain satin liner from www.hatsupply.com. I bought several of them to have on hand for hats that need new liners. I also prefer them over liners with plastic inserts. The ones with inserts can get very hot.

Thanks Deacon.
I also have his other guns but don't have any pictures of these. They were all manufactured in the 1940's and 1950's. They are in great shape too.
Browning Auto-5 Shotgun - 16ga
Winchester Model 94 Rifle - 32 Winchester Special
Smith & Wesson Pre Model 36 Chief's Special -...
Thanks Harv. I love Colts too. Especially the old ones with the beautiful blued finish. What they call a blued finish now is nothing compared to what they used to produce.
An older lady I have known for many years had this wrapped up in an old towel. It belonged to her father and was still loaded. It is a Colt 38 Super manufactured in the 1940's right after WWII. This is an old, low resolution photo and does not do it justice. The pistol has that beautiful old...
There are quite a few advertisements in the "No Name Hat Co." thread with this type of crease. Here is the link to the thread.
