Looks great cpvd. Love the shawl collar cardigan + bow tie look. I like a tight fade as well, and my barbers are equally obsessive about blending out the lines. When someone asks them not to, they capitulate, but make you promise not to tell anyone where you got the haircut!
Thanks for the color matching suggestions, all. I've noted them for the next time I am perplexed with pairing this suit up. Hadn't thought of pale pink, that might work quite well. And I'm always glad for an excuse to hunt up more red ties!
Yeah, especially with my straws I tend to worry the brim as a nervous habit, rolling it under until the curve is pretty steep. It is a distinctive look - that was a bit of a problem when the wind would slap my forehead with it!
TT, you pull off the cravat look extremely well, I'm not sure I...
Back from a couple weeks in Israel/Palestine. Never experienced such an arid climate, but the trip was great! It proved to me that a vintage-inclined wardrobe has a certain utility - never have I been more grateful for straw hats, safari jackets full of pockets, and lace-up boots. Also, I never...
Thanks for the kind words gents! Struggling now to match colors with that very red brown hue.
Gladly Nick -pardon the delay, just back home after a couple weeks abroad. The pockets are NOT stitched past that middle line you mention. They flap free. And the underside of the flaps are even lined!
Yeah, the vest sold me on buying it. I just can't figure out - why FAKE pocket flaps? If you're going to go through the trouble of putting pocket flaps on the vest, why not make them functional?
Hyena, that suit is glorious. And I think the cap and specs work fine.
One of my favorite looks from the Fellows illustrations (that Rabbit recently consolidated into one amazing thread) is a cream jacket with gray flannels. Decided to give it a try:
Another recent acquisition - the brown 30's suit that birthed the whole 1970's. Certain this one is wool, no burn testing necessary. Pleats and fake pocket flaps on the vest front are nice touches.
As your story suggests, I think it's more about the cut of the vest than the number of buttons. If the last button on the vest is, as you say, placed where the vest is curving into the points so that buttoning it creates peculiar wrinkles, then leave it unbuttoned. If the button is along the...
Beautiful sport coat. Would you call it a houndstooth with blue windowpane? Takes some skill to wear a jacket like that and not be loud, but you nail it with the pattern matching
Nice, sparing use of seersucker Tommy, and kudos on the boater!
Been craving a good marshmallow roast. Guess I've found the kindling! I'll post sample residue in this thread afterwards, and take a poll on where everyone thinks the consistency of the ash falls on your chart.
P.S.
Hoping it's not made of fiberglass, asbestos, or metal
Great suit, Speakeasy. LOVE the slubby fabric - has an endearing homespun quality to it. Are silks like this...well, silky to the touch, like linings and backings and ties? Or do they have a different feel?
EVERKOOL - such hip brand names. And with the Palm Tree logo to boot, in case you, the savvy buyer, hadn't already copped to the fact that they were competing with PB's patented fabric.
I considered putting this hypothesis forward as well. I looked up sanforisation on Wikipedia (of course)...
Thanks TT - wearing one down here is not for the faint of heart. Given the preponderance of that OTHER kind of hat, you'd think folks would be more inured to the effect, but you'd be wrong.
Cotton was Houndstooth Kid's guess at the fabric. I am pretty sure it isn't silk. If I'm wrong, FL Gods forgive me for the bleach bath. Could well be a wool/linen blend, as I've never handled that kind of fabric, though it doesn't have any of the coarse, slubby nature I'd expect for linen. It's...
