    Guernsey jumper

well, it's a funny thing, around when this thread first started (c.7 years ago) I used to pick them up regularly in charity shops and if I found one at a vintage fair it didn't cost much more - no one was interested, in fact few people seemed to know what they were and simply priced them as "old...

    Good Watch Cap Repro?

I would dispute that a wool/acrylic blend looks exactly like pure wool. And even if the initial difference isn't that important to you, after a few months wear it will pill horribly and start to look very shabby. Of course, in the grand scheme of things a wool watch cap is a fairly simple...

Dating Vintage Stetsons by Liner: A Field Guide

Pre-1959 because that's when the store finally closed. Unbashed (or rather de-bashed) nutria OR style with unusual cowboy liner - not "the last drop". Pix lifted from ebay!

Dating Vintage Stetsons by Liner: A Field Guide

it occurs to me from browsing a few of these threads, that it could also help in dating to pin down exactly when Stetson did and didn't stamp the model name inside the sweat. For example, my OR (possibly c.1978) doesn't have the OR name inside, only Royal Stetson and the co. logo.

this might be of interest...the guy's only post, if i read it right he had been a Stetson salesman? http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?7047-The-Open-Road-Guild/page58 "Stetson and St Joseph During the late 1960s the Stetson plant in Philadelphia was outdated and had labor...

    Ebay Global Postage Program

well, I got the GPP hatstretcher today. Posted on the 3rd and arrived the 13th, ten days. Also got a pair of boots which didn't come through the GPP programme, ordered on the 7th - only 6 days! A big difference, so i looked at the tracking...... The boots inevitably went through a few sort...

    1940s 50s GERMAN "LUFTWAFFE" LEATHER BIKE/FLIGHT JACKET 38-40

no problem! It's the pictures that sell things. I'm always staggered by the number of people who list on ebay with a one line description, two grainy pix from their mobile, and a three figure price!

1960s NYPD HORSEHIDE BLACK LEATHER POLICE JACKET by MIKLOS SAS with liner

I agree, these are fantastic jackets. I don't really want to sell it but I need the dosh to put towards my Lewis Lumber fund, and something's got to go!

Dating Vintage Stetsons by Liner: A Field Guide

thanks Dallashat - that's good solid information! It is indeed an odd (and rather unattractive) design liner and I suspect wasn't around for long. So for the moment I'll take my hat as "probably" late 70s. We still need to pin down this metric tag thing. My guess would be they were introduced...

Dating Vintage Stetsons by Liner: A Field Guide

yes, the liner seems very distinctive, and if we could only find a few others with the same liner to add context, probably the key. But I couldn't find another example in any of the threads I've looked at. I bought the hat off the bass player in our '50s Hillbilly/WS band - he had two. It...

c'mon, if a mere tyro like me can guess 70s/80s then one of you guys can surely narrow it down to a single decade......:) My money's on 1975-85, not sure I could say why though....

    Eastman - a new direction?

The prices are way out of my league, but seem to reflect the current market. A quick glance round the net suggests Aero are around £650-700, LL are around £700-750, ELMC are around £850-900 - i.e. roughly about £200 more. As they will probably be "stitch nazi" near-cloned copies of the originals...

Dating Vintage Stetsons by Liner: A Field Guide

thanks for the input everyone. yes, the box is (AFAIK) the original. It seems there's a growing consensus around 1970s/80s - which was my original guesstimate. But is anyone willing to be more precise? Re the metric size tag issue: I've perused a few threads and found contradictory...

    1940s 50s GERMAN "LUFTWAFFE" LEATHER BIKE/FLIGHT JACKET 38-40

the measurements suggest it is technically a 40, but that would be in the close fitting period style. 41 would probably be pushing it!

    British Workwear

Yes, there's a few of us round here with a taste for mid-century British cinema! Painted Boats is a classic piece of British poetic realism which deserves to be much better known.
