I had one of the earlier 37j1’s that Headwind made in goatskin.
The goat was quite thin, which was appropriate from what I understand for the original jacket and resembles capeskin.
The thin hide gives it the feel of a “leather shirt” and that is how I have heard most people who are not jacket...
I tried on that jacket in Pensacola several years ago.
I didn’t so much find it “trim” fitting as I did “proper” fitting from a military standpoint.
If you like the waist of your jackets loose, then you might find it snug. But, I’m no string bean anymore and I did not find it ill fitting...
Excellent choice! The Star is beautiful.
Honestly, I think repros are great (I have several).
But making and selling a repro is a series of choices: in accuracy, in availability, and in desirability; which sometimes counters accuracy.
If you want the real deal, you may be holding it in your...
Just FYI, the Cockpit is not the only G-1 that lacked the horizontal seam.
The Coopers issued in the ‘90s also lacked it.
If it was a historical accuracy issue. [emoji16]

For several years, a G+B m-422a was my only repro. Built like a tank, the only reason I sold it was that I had outgrown it.
Looked at picking up another around 2012 but they had widened the patterns too much and the torso fit like a tent on me. Don’t know how the A-2 fits, but it will make a...
I was one of the glowing reviewers of the 100 Mission.
It’s honestly a great repro and very affordable. The goat is pretty heavy compared to some and so perhaps not entirely correct. But it has great character and really does look like an old issue jacket of the 60’s that someone pulled out of...
It’s a great looking jacket and it looks as though it fits you perfectly.
One rhetorical question: Are you really going to be wearing a big thermal shirt under this jacket?
I can wear my ELC Irvin in 20F with a casual shirt or t-shirt and, if I’m cold, it’s not in the torso! LOL.
Personal...
Hey Worf,
Saw you on, was it the IL-2 forums (or was it DCS?) and was surprised! I rarely see people on a cross discipline forum...at least with a similar recognizable forum name. [emoji16]
Isn’t there a dude on the VLJ forums that still does commission work with patches?
Good luck in your...
Good call, Thor.
Nice jacket Metatron! [emoji1303]
But I knew some P-3 guys who you wouldn’t want to be in a dark bar with when you said that about the Patrol community. [emoji6]
Trolling around in the goo at 100ft with one engine shutdown looking for subs is not for the faint of heart...
Ya know, I can’t say for certain, but there was an attachable fur hood that they used to have available and I think it attached via buttons...to something.
The MA-1 would seem to be too light for a big hood, but who knows?

I also wonder if the ring might be to sew over existing patch holes. A collar would make the patch just wide enough to hide the holes of a previous patch.

Interesting topic.
I’ll admit I was captivated by the movie Top Gun as a teen; not so much for the “story” which was truly classic ‘80s action fodder, but for the spectacular flying scenes. Honestly I can’t think of another movie that used real aircraft and had the level of cinematography...
Ha! Well no stupid questions... Plus, it’s always interesting to see a jacket that has something out of the ordinary. It kind of builds the knowledge base and all that.
I reconsidered the size of your patch and it occurs to me that it IS awful small. Now, I’m almost thinking it could have been...
Hey Splinter,
Love to see pics, but it’s a total toss up as to what could have been there. Could be a ship patch, aircraft patch, maybe even just a small diameter Navy or Marine insignia. The fact that it is round of course makes it harder. If it had been some odd shape, it might have given...
After watching documentaries like this,

wherein the particularly worrisome chemical in Scotchguard and Goretex was found in the bloodstream of populations completely on the other side of the world (and not given to wearing fashionable performance gear), I think you...
