FWIW, ‘90s era Coopers were goat and are a nice, if not gorgeous, jacket. I believe the blue label aftermarket versions (as were sold in the NEX/MCX) also had real mouton but poly knits.
I mention these as they are more recent and thus maybe more common.
Honestly, the Cockpit still makes a...
Echo what most of these guys say.
I have a ELC redskin B-6 from 2000 and a broken grain Irvin from about 2014. Both were very stiff at first and remain quite stiff, but pliable. For that matter, my ELC G-1 was and still is quite stiff, so that definitely seems to be an ELC thing.
Having said...
A beautiful jacket and the fit is great!
I love the thinner shearling. My ELC is a great jacket, but it still looks like I’m being swallowed by a bear.
No, and I once again regret not being able to post pics, but the Coopers are not an especially trim fitting jacket in the sleeves or in the waist.
They are not blousy like later model G-1s. However, they don’t angle in quite as much as maybe the ‘50s-‘60s era jackets do. My exposure to that era...
I have a Cooper Blue label. Just checked my closet and I am a 48R, so perhaps not much help.
I actually live in that in between zone between 46 and 48 but I’d say that Coopers (as most original G-1s) fit trimly across the shoulders. In other words, I would wear a 46 suit, but a 46 G-1 might be...
Good eye on that one!
I found a few pics with better pocket detail. I’d say that those are characteristically G+B.
Going by the two G+Bs I had in the ‘90s-aughts, I’d say that the leather is a bit thinner. I wouldn’t say that is a bad thing as the G+Bs I had were substantially thicker than my...
Hey Thor,
Have you had a USA? You certainly have the collection to make an objective assessment.
For my part, the pics on the website have always looked a little off. But those pics have been around for ages it seems.
I’d love to see an updated set of detailed pics.
Yeah, that’s a tough road to go down. The Pops jackets I’ve seen were visibly different than my issue ones. I also once had a Water Buffalo jacket made in Osan. Comfy but again, visibly different.
I’d be reluctant to suggest the more expensive options as they are often twice as expensive or...
Yeah, that narrows down your choices somewhat. I was originally issued a Cooper back in ‘91. I never noticed the seam until I became a jacket nut much later on. :-)
I’ve never had a US A G-1, but I’d make sure you look at some detailed photos. There used to be a few departures from the issue...
Pretty sure those are pilot wings. Thought I saw a Hornet patch somewhere else as well. There are a few places now that make the embossed kind of name tag, but originally it was exclusive to the Tipsy Gypsy.
