Well, actually I think it’s a little more than that.
A company who makes a repro and uses a little license to say that they are “mil-spec” or that they supply (something) to the military may actually be technically correct while not telling the WHOLE truth.
But if this jacket pattern (and it’s...
Great looking jacket!
Agree that you should just wear it.
My new ELC G-1 was very stiff at first and formed several distinct creases in the back. I worked the leather endlessly, worried that the creases were going to somehow spoil the look of the jacket.
But, in the end, I never got rid of...
Here’s some pics of what I mean
The top jacket is a goat Cooper, the bottom a cow Pharr. Especially with the angle of the light hitting it, you can see more relief in the Cooper’s hide. The Pharr’s pebbling has been pressed into it and only goes skin deep...so to speak.
That’s the only...
The only way I’ve ever been able to tell goat from cow is by looking very closely at the hide. With cow, you can often see up close that the individual cells or “pebbles” that are pressed into the cow are in fact connected to each other like when they give plastic a leather grain, but much more...
Beautiful collection! Like Thor, I have the challenge of finding size 46/48 jackets.
Overwhelmingly, the jackets I come across are size 42, so I think you are in the perfect place!

I’m not normally an A-2 buff, but that is a great looking jacket.
Makes me consider expanding my addiction, I mean my collection. [emoji6]

Well, that’s a heartbreaker.
Steve does excellent work and it’s a shame that it doesn’t fit you as you’d like. Still, it’s a beautiful jacket and it’s going to make someone very happy. Are you planning it’s replacement?

That’s really interesting.
Notice that the jacket is actually attributed to Paramount Pictures, though I can’t think of what movie it would have come from. Notice also that the label says The Cockpit, which I think would date it somewhat. Didn’t all the older Cockpit Jackets have “Avirex”...
I personally love the Rough Wear B-6. It's not only the great reddish color of the leather. It's the great cream color of the fleece. I would totally go for the RW.
And congrats on getting a great jacket whatever you decide!
Hey Greg,
That is a good looking jacket you have there. Final Countdown was a very fun movie and IIRC the inflight scenes were repurposed for either the NASM and/or the Intrepid museum in their carrier aviation area, music and all.
As to your question, I can only speak to my era ('90-'00 or...
That looks awesome Thor! I’ve been really thinking about the USW signature G-1 but didn’t know how the cut compared to the traditional jackets.

I’d imagine that they just got used to wearing the tops around in the Ready Room and they became sort of a second flight jacket. I think they are warmer than the G-1 and it was just easier to wear the WEP that you were going to wear anyway and not carry two jackets with you.
That would also be...
Oh, I can't help but wonder if some of that "tightness" is just newness especially in the collar and won't loosen up over time. I agree with the general consensus that the shoulders couldn't really fit any looser and still look good.
Thanks for ringing me in Peacoat!
I think that jacket looks epic on you Drewdog! One thing I personally like in the Cockpit G-1 is that the sleeves feel tapered more like the old jackets and not as tube like as in the newer ones. This makes for a less baggy and overhanging sleeve. I have...
