In case this doesn’t come out, search for Which is Your Favorite G-1, page 262 or so. Hawkflyer...
Hey Hardcharger.
Thanks for your service. I believe
Excelled was a supplier and may still be.
But do a search here first, because I seem to recall that the original contract from 2000 timeframe was a higher quality than the more recent vintage.
Be careful here as you might get a pale shadow...
Have you looked at Gibson and Barnes? They carry a variety of EMT wear, most of which comes unadorned.
Also some of the tactical gear suppliers like US Cavalry carry all the usual tax gear for EMT, law enforcement, etc. They might have something in a lightweight jacket or anorak that might...
This is an interesting turn of topic.
I’m inclined to agree with the idea that the A-2 redesign was more a culturally influenced phenomenon than a specific attempt to make a unisex garment, though I think Big J’s suggestion is interesting and has some merit. I would be surprised if the...
That’s actually a very good observation! I hadn’t considered it before.
Back in the '90s some AF general decided that his contribution to aviation was to redesign the standard issue flight suit. So they ripped off the thigh pockets, broadened the midsection, and made several other minor...
I'm fairly sure that there is no standing reg for the Velcro. In the naval services, the para shop guys would usually sew it on by eye.
I do wonder however if the USAF jacket doesn't already come with Velcro from the maker unlike the G-1. The issued A-2s seem to be more uniform and as the Maj...
Hey Bronco,
I can't help you much in the fit department, but I'd agree with some of what Big J is saying. The cut of the reissue A-2s are different than the originals. That's not always a bad thing as I think many original makers had their own quirks. But the new jackets are cut baggy...
Received my Cockpit catalogue a few weeks ago and came across this item. Not truly historic in the (insert controversy starting repo maker here) sense, but I like that it's a style that doesn't get much representation in jacket land.
Was actually a little surprised that no one had brought it...
I think it looks awesome man! I personally think the shorter waisted jackets look smarter, like an Ike jacket. Long flight jackets look frumpy sometimes, IMO.
Welcome, BTW!

I really like the ANJ as well, but I'll say personally that I think this claim is stuffed full of wild blueberry muffins.
First of all, it's almost entirely a Cockpit USA claim and they claim it for whatever era matches the patches on their jacket (PBY pilots, F-4 pilots, etc) which seems...
I don't know how much driving you are looking to do and I don't know what current state of repair they are in, but Gibson and Barnes is not terrifically far away from LA (by California standards) and the USS Midway museum and the San Diego Air and Space are worth seeing.

Ya know Doc, that Avirex may not be as naturally aged as one might suspect.
Avirex was/is big on the pre-distressed look. I'd almost argue that they pioneered it back in the '80s when jackets were becoming the cool thing again.
I've washed my jackets from time to time, gently, and worn them...

See that there aren't any replies yet.
There was a thread not too long a ago that either started as or turned into a m-421 thread. IIRC, there aren't many makers and the most affordable of those was actually a Ralph Lauren inspired on or something like that.

Hey, just something to keep in mind is that these jackets will "loosen" over time. I'd argue that is particularly true with the Eastman's.
At four years, my BOB Eastman is only starting to fit like it belongs to me and not someone else. So a loose fit may become looser over time as the...
In the end you like what you like and I guess it is true that the 40s era A-2s were proportioned differently. But I still think all three of you look great in those Coopers.
I know it's been said before, but flight jackets were (and still technically are) flight gear. True, if the jacket is...
