Seinfeld, you mean.
As for brands, Aero is the most widely/consistently owned. However, it’s a broader church now. For instance some year ago it would have been de rigueur to hate on Schott, with some exceptions. Not so much anymore. Likewise, Vanson is well loved and pretty much within...
Ah, I assumed you came from a site like that. The denim lifestyle sites are completely clueless about leather, even if they accidentally get something right. It’s basically just regurgitating the marketing for whatever the favored brands are at the moment at Self Edge and the like.
Veg tanned...
No, in fact many of my Japanese friends hate leather with a brown core. It’s promoted a lot by stores like Self Edge because they can position it as an equivalent to denim fades. Often a jacket is available in Japan with a dyed through black option but the American stockists won’t sell it...
Not true, multiple Japanese brands offer them.
Incorrect, I have US market Perfectos, both vintage and modern, with all of these features.
There is. With all due respect to Canuck and his genuinely amazing collection, there is a ton of conjecture in these posts and I would argue against...
I'm not sure what you mean. Basically every Japanese brand makes a version of the Buco J-24, the Schott 613, the Lewis Lightning and Dominator, often using the exact same leathers.
The 'twist' that the Leon Custom has over the 613SH or standard Leon Onestar is that they've pre-cut the epaulettes and belt off, leaving a little piece of each–you could do this to a Perfecto as well, although I think it doesn't look very good on either. As someone who also wears these kinds of...
I think the soft Italian horsehide might be right then, given your other preferences.
I see you added CXL to your OP–I would totally rule it out. It's going to be quite stiff, even if tumbled, so it's not going to satisfy what you're looking for.
Here's the shop page. A bunch of us here have it. Myself, Tom, dannyk, and TooManyHats (who loved it but needed a different size so he sold it), possibly others.
I think you'd like Aero's black goatskin. It's one of their most stunning leathers, with a great luster and drape. It just feels good to wear, in a way that can't be said of many leathers. It has a ton of give so you never feel constricted by the hide, but it's also substantial. It's by far my...
Tbh even 1.5mm is pretty hefty.
I would strongly recommend that you consider the Schott 613SH. I find it nicer than the Leon Custom in every respect (leather, pattern, etc) and as a bonus it's ½ the price.
