Then I know you'll love this thread :) Great pictures!

If I had to pick one girl from the golden era

Rumour has it that Lauren Bacall is not, nor has she ever been, the most docile of women. ;) Has anyone mentioned Lana Turner? Yowza! EDIT: I found a really great Bacall picture in my collection -

Had anyone ever been tempted to stop hat wearing?

What you said! I was talking about personal life. (I love how you see all sides of the coin, Marc :))

How to avoid looking like emo / rockabilly / scene ???

It's the same with what happened to the old Superman show - People were no longer laughing with him, they were laughing at him. Except for emo's, it would be crying...

Had anyone ever been tempted to stop hat wearing?

I understand that people close to you can make comments that sting. I even started a thread on Mums and their nasty comments! You're obviously a confident fellow to be wearing a unique style, period. If you ever stop wearing a hat, I'd urge you not to do it because of something someone else...

Quirky things that people have done 'in the day' that people would gasp at today..

That is shocking! They're siblings, for heaven's sake. That poor family... :offtopic: Reminds me (almost) of a recent case up here: An independently owned store was being shoplifted very often and was hurting for it. The shoplifter was caught by the owner's son - The thief tried to run, but...

How to avoid looking like emo / rockabilly / scene ???

Right - It's individuality that makes a look memorable. :)

How to avoid looking like emo / rockabilly / scene ???

Studying vintage stars is not a bad thing to do when adopting a vintage look. I personally took many cues from Rita Hayworth and Marilyn Monroe, studying everything about them - Their hair, makeup, outfits, postures, smiles. There is nothing wrong with wanting to adopt a Rockabilly, Vintage...

    Favorite Non Red Lipstick Shades

I hear you. MAC lipglass is quite nice when just dotted over lipstick, and Guerlain is very smooth - But lipgloss in general is very sticky. Speaking of Guerlain and non-red lips, I have been known to sport gold lips on occasion: KissKiss gloss in 801 - A deep yellow gold :)

How to avoid looking like emo / rockabilly / scene ???

It's true. My summer wardrobe has a lot more variety than my winter one - Heavyweight skirts don't come with the fun details or fabrics, shoes are limited, although sweaters can be fun. Jackets are fun, but not as fun as a nice bustier! Hats I will agree on. Autumn and winter mean my...

Thanks doll lol We do some crazy things in those hormonal years!

"Here's looking at you, kid" and what might get you slapped

What a disgusting man! He may think that's a compliment, but it's downright perverted. One time on the subway, this intoxicated man shouted out that he could see all my "nooks and crannies" in my outfit (pencil skirt and sweater...?). I ignored him of course, but he started coming closer...

Ladies, What kind of vintage car would you love to cruise in?

A white 1955 Thunderbird. I'd even settle for the latest make

    Favorite Non Red Lipstick Shades

My red alternative is purple. My favourite, this lipstick and lipglass from MAC's Dame Edna collection: The lipstick is a matte, called Gladiola, and the glass is Hot Frost. You can't get them anymore :( I won't give these up if I have to scrape residue from the containers. PS. Hi Fleur :D

How to avoid looking like emo / rockabilly / scene ???

Speaking from experience! As a former scene kid myself: Rockabilly is in no way even remotely similar to the scene. Emo is confused with the scene - in fact its from a style of music with very dark themes. The scene involves crazy hair, skinny jeans, childrens barrettes, and modern music...

    Rosie the Riveter

Unfortunately, some will never grasp this concept. I'm going to go talk to a can of paint. I'm sure I will have a more fruitful conversation... No disrespect intended to the many open minded ladies in this thread - But, respectfully, I'm opting out.

    Rosie the Riveter

Make do and mend, right? A childhood friend of mine (whom I wished remained in only my memory) once saw me darning a wool sock. She asked me what I thought I was doing - "darning the hole in this sock," I replied. "Why don't you just throw it away? You can buy those for, like, 3 bucks at...

    Rosie the Riveter

Did you read the last sentence I wrote? I am not talking about experiences, I'm stating facts. I call myself a feminist because I admire the feminists of the early 20th century who fought for many of the rights, freedoms, and equalities we have today. This is also a fact - Without these...

    Rosie the Riveter

I'm sorry - But how can you confuse media pressure and family dynamics with feminism? The issues you mention are sociological. This is a study and classification of human societies and trends, not a doctrine that advocates equal rights for women. Interesting point! I read a really great...

Quirky things that people have done 'in the day' that people would gasp at today..

My mother has told me stories of that too - When she was 6, she'd run to the corner store to buy my grandpa his Camels. Not to mention she started smoking at 14! That's difficult to pull off these days.
