Further to this... parka is back home after cleaning, looks excellent. Fit is too short in the arms and too wide in the chest. These things are clearly aimed at Regular length people only (so that's a friendly caution to anyone out there who is a Tall/Long and is considering vintage nylon)...
We all know that the USAF procured and presumably issued N2B parkas well into the mid-1980s, even though by that time the nomex flyers jackets would have been in widespread use. So what were the N2B jackets used for and by whom? Do any ex-servicemen remember seeing them being worn?
Here's the Albert Turner parka I just got. You can see the UV fade on the hood and the long-gone wolf fur. It's getting cleaned right now. The photos make it look banged up but it's actually in very good shape and looks great in real life. Whether I keep it or not long-term is questionable, but...
Alpha from 1959, at least according to the tag. I'm not sure they listed the year on the old tags - Atticus?

PBS showed a documentary on Bill McCoy which I watched last night. It was interesting to learn the history behind the nickname and cliché "the Real McCoy".
Great to learn that she's straight-up about this and doesn't try to bullsh*t around stuff, like I'm sure some would do in her place. I totally support making garments a bit more practical and useable as long as the 'spirit' of the thing is maintained, which certainly seems to be the case in this...
