I'm pretty sure the jacket in the photo below is a reproduction, but it shows the collar tab well. With the collar flipped up and tab holding it closed, your neck will be kept warm.
Some of you will be pleased to learn that the individual in this photo now claims to be $53 million in debt. How is that even possible???
UPDATE: Now he claims a bunch of rich people have offered to help him out.
= idiotic publicity stunt by an attention whore
Great military story, thanks for posting.
It's -17C right now this morning and I suspect it must have been even colder overnight since the sky was clear and that always means a cold night. I would like to go for a walk but I'll keep it short and dress up appropriately (although as the story...
I just picked up one of those jackets, USA made and with the metal zipper, and the thicker pile in the hood. It's certainly not as heavy as vintage nylon, but it performed fine in the snowstorm I just walked through. I love the hood - finally, I can keep my head warm. I suppose an N3B would be...
^ Friggin' guys, come up here and enjoy the cold with us real men. I just walked to the post office (and back!) in a snowstorm. It was fun... well, it was fun in one direction at least.
Here's a Spiewak Golden Fleece N3B parka, currently listed on the Bay. It's not military, of course, but it looks like it's very good quality, probably halfway between Buzz and Alpha. I don't think they make these anymore, which seems a shame.
Interested persons can download the mil-spec document for MA-1 jackets, G contract, from the link below. Press the big orange button and it downloads a PDF. I've done this and the download is kosher. Amazingly, the document is dated 1979 with an update in 1988...
I will echo the recommendations in this thread for the "Suit Up" book. I just received a copy today and it's an excellent book. It ranges from very early leather jackets up to the nomex flight jackets, with everything in between. The photos of jackets are top notch and they cover many...
I just picked up a mid-50s one (which I won't be keeping) and it's not a good fit for me. I'm 6'1" and 41" chest and it's far to "wide" in the chest and too short in the sleeves. It has raglan sleeves, which would normally be pretty forgiving with sleeve length, but the wool insulation makes the...
Remember, when you return to France the customs people will possibly hit you for tax and duties, if you declare your purchases (and if you don't declare them, and they find out, the won't be happy).
For sale one vintage USAF N-3B parka made by Albert Turner, size Large. Atticus says the contract date is 1953 to 1958, but we can't pin it down more than that. Either way, it's old. Condition is excellent and this is a fully wearable parka. I just had it dry cleaned so it's ready to go. The...
Holy carp! that was very successful indeed.
I seem to remember that a thin vinegar solution can be used to remove salt stains from shoes (for those of us who live up north)... someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
