Northeast US members... What are you wearing in the snow??

With my arm in the sling I am just supervising the snow removal process, in a soft down jacket that's easy to put on and take off. I have at least 4 neighbors helping my wife and kids and it's still been an hour and a half with no end in sight. (I don't have a large property as I live on a golf course, it's just very deep, three large snowblowers going at once.) And yes, I know, you guys in upstate NY are laughing at all of us right now...

I'm actually traveling into NYC for a culinary competition - I'm a chef-instructor and one of my students is competing tomorrow night. I'm wearing my Speiwak Golden Fleece N3-B. For shoveling (and we didn't get a single flake from this super storm), I use an old coat that was part of my grandfather's firefighter uniform. Not a firecoat, but an outer coat as part of his standard uniform. TBH - I actually enjoy getting out and shoveling snow with the guys in my neighborhood. We break out some cigars and swap stories. Good luck with that snow; that is some serious accumulation!

I've been reading in the paper about the blizzard conditions in certain parts of the country, particularly parts of NC, PA, etc. Although it is only a bit chilly here in N Texas (up to 60F today, 65F tomorrow), you guys affected by the winter storms will be laughing at me in six months as I suffer in 105F heat with high humidity.

I've been reading in the paper about the blizzard conditions in certain parts of the country, particularly parts of NC, PA, etc. Although it is only a bit chilly here in N Texas (up to 60F today, 65F tomorrow), you guys affected by the winter storms will be laughing at me in six months as I suffer in 105F heat with high humidity.

The enormity of the storm is pretty staggering. It caused snow to fall from the FL panhandle all the way to New England. First storm in history to drop over two feet of snow in both Baltimore and New York. Plus the winter flooding on the NJ shore, with mini-icebergs floating down the streets of these beach towns. Thankfully these events tend (for the most part) to bring out the best in people and my entire neighborhood is mobilized helping to dig each other out.

And yes, schadenfreude will be in full effect by the time your summer hits...

Taking to mom now in State College. She reckons she got over two feet so far. I do miss that - oddly. When I was there last year at this time, I was shoveling in my PB N-1. Not that much snow, but still enjoyed it. Nice pics @pawineguy - enjoy the day!

Exactly what my neighbor three doors down posted last night about his dog, although I think he called it a luge run: (this was before we got another big burst of snow... and yes, she weighs 170 pounds but don't say anything because she's sensitive about her weight)

I loved growing up in PA. We literally had the best snow and hills to play on. Had some epic runs and got some epic injuries too. I hate that my kids didn't have that part of my childhood - it's why to this day I still leo everything about snow - unless it caves in your roof of course

Newfoundland. Very sweet and gentle, great family dogs. Just massive. (She's VERY big even for a Newfoundland)

Newfies are great dogs! When we were kids, our neighbors bred them. I think they were brown and black and they had both. We could ride on them! The nicest dogs around, and there were huge! Other neighbors had St Bernards - also very large dogs with a fun disposition. Both great in the snow!

Rode to work today in my Vanson R3 Replica jacket. It took a few minutes to dig my scooter out but the roads were mostly clear so I figured it would be good to go for riding to work. The roads were clear until right before arriving at work where I was slipping around a bit in the ruts in the snow. The leather's so thick on this that I'm ok with abusing it a bit. I got a bit of spray from the wet roads. How bad is road salt? Should I be wiping it down after every ride or just every week or so?

I used to wipe off every day with just some wet washcloths. Warm water, and get until you can't taste the salt on the leather...

Agree strongly with Butte, get the salt off immediately, the water won't do anything to a Vanson, but the salt won't be good.
