Who is still alive from the Golden Era of movies?
I've been wanting to compile this list since forever! With the recent losses of Yvonne DeCarlo, Betty Hutton, Marian Marsh, Bruce Bennett, and Kitty Carlisle Hart I figured now would be a good time.
Here's who I have so far...
I might be in the minority here, but I LOVE cleaning and watching the dirt go away!
But I admit my weakness is actually moving things out of the way. I hate doing that. Sometimes if the husband isn't around I'll dust, mop, and vacuum AROUND everything.
A book
An old movie, with all the lights out
An old magazine
A complete self-beauty routine
A bottle of beer
Watching something mind-numbingly stupid on TV that you normally wouldn't watch and laugh at it!
These are my techniques. They work for me every time.
I was recently thinking of how great it would be if the FL had a recipe room. I love cooking and trying new foods! I could also share "vintage" recipes of the stars from my old movie magazines ;)
Oh don't be embarrassed! We all have to start somewhere :)
May I ask what DVDs you ordered?? Also, I don't know if it would be the same where you are, but sometimes you can find oldies.com DVDs on amazon.com, used, for waaaaaaaaaay cheap!
The "Child Bride" is an actress named Shirley Mills. She didn't do anything outstanding in her career, but she's still alive!
It would have been very interesting had it been Rue, though. I do have a Something Weird disc of Rue movies from the 60s! In one she plays a "burlesque...
I adore archive.org!! I also like cheapie Alpha Video DVDs (oldies.com) and Something Weird Video.
I pretty much have the whole oldies.com 1930s "Exploitation" film inventory and lots from Something Weird. I have way too many here to list, but I'll go over the most "shocking"!!
-Sex...
Is anyone else in here interested in low-budget, "poverty row" movies and/or "educational" exploitation movies? What are some of your favourites from the 20s to the 50s? What's the most shocking thing you've seen in these movies?
Wind is my mortal enemy. I hate it more than any other type of weather. Not only does it blow up my skirt at presicely the moment that my hands are full, but it also messes up my well-coffied hair!
I don't wear slips or anything like that. I just use my hand and bunch the skirt up tight...
I have more kid's stories from friends:
My friend Shawn has an 8 year old son named Shawnie who was terrified of going into the bathroom in his house. Shawnie said there was an old man in there who was always telling him to "Get out!"
So one day Shawn had his wife and son go out and he...
I was just in Philadelphia the other day admiring the old Strawbridge & Clothier building on Market Street. It was gorgeous. I loved the HUGE "1928" cornerstone and wish I had had my camera to take pics. I imagined a busy store with shoes in the windows and flappers in stylish cloche hats...
I totally agree with this! Mid-calf is very 1930s so it stays within it's time period, yet isn't so super-dressy like the longer length.
I also agree about not cutting it to shorten it.
Like a lot of you -- I LOVE THAT PINK & BLACK DRESS!!! But I see that it only came in sizes 9-13 -- I'm a vintage 16!! No chance in me ever stumbling upon one in a thrift shop that fits :(
I'm glad everyone liked the scans. I know that the 40s are probably the most popular decade here at...
More scans can be found here:

I'm going to eventually scan every magazine I own so feel free to look whenever you want. Comments are fine.
Thanks for looking at my scans here on the Lounge!
Double Indemnity is pretty good. Barbara Stanwyck looks like my mother when she was young, especially in the scene where she's at the grocery store in sunglasses. THAT IS MY MOM!!! :)
Red toenails for me, too. My fingernails are rarely painted, but I'm always fixing my toenail polish! That, and the fact that I'm wearing Besame makeup. Makes me feel like a million.
