I wouldn't have necessarily pegged those last two as having 2" brims, with your face shape, they look longer....that's not a bad thing, I think it's more complimentary to your face shape than the first (not that any of them look bad on you!).
The color of Depp's hat from Public enemies is a very dark shade of Oxblood, produced exclusively for Optimo hats. Custom hatters such as Art Fawcett, John Penman, etc, can use a felt called "Black Cherry" which is a very close substitute. I do not know of any production made hat which has a...
That'd be helpful information to have on the site.
When I placed my order in November, Art had these available: black, dark moss, black cherry, silverbelly, granite, silvermist, and chocolate.
Oof, glad to hear the Major escaped a more serious injury. Still, I'm sure it's no fun being scalded in that manner. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
You sir, own the Hollywood brim look. The old mint is a very cool place, I was last there when they had an exhibition of concert posters.
Nice lid, I think you'll fit in just fine around these parts!
Well, I don't know anything about the maker, but they didn't immediately strike me as 30's styled hats.
Via a few different Google searches I've found that RW & TK Thompson was the store in Kendal, which operated sometime into the 60's.
The Tress family has their own website. The former Tress...
Thanks for the kind words on the Homburg and well wishes everyone!
Some great hats today as usual.
Alan: I love, love, love your Open Road. I'm trying to make mine look more like yours all the time.
Jeff: Always a pleasure to see your Black Cherry Lord's hat. One of my favorite felt colors...
Looks like an Open Road. Nice find.
A late in the day posting for me, took a break from thesis writing for one last meal at the venerable SF institution, Tommy Toy's, one of those good, old school fine dining establishments. Gentlemen are required to wear a jacket, so I got all dressed up...
Yeah, that's a lot like the one I had...might've been the same model. Ok, so if it's the brim you're talking about and not the crown, you don't need to do a full reblock, only a re-flange. Provided Batsake's has the appropriate flange for a Stratoliner, it shouldn't be a problem.
Picked this one up off the 'bay, and had it in mind for a conversion. Sold to me as a size 7, but when it arrived, the 7 1/4 tag was right there. So this one has got to go unfortunately. Kind of a weird mashup between a Alpine style hat and a trilby/fedora look. Mink brown color, the model...
Hmm...well, it certainly won't react like a Stratoliner when you're done with it, because the Stratoliner felt was a lightweight felt, and the Stampede is going to be a heavier western weight. I briefly had in my posession a late 70s-80's Stetson western that I was considering converting and...
If you're looking for an inexpensive Panama, I just picked up an "Indiana" from Panama Bob via his eBay store (id: panamahatsecuador). It's a no frills hat with a cloth sweatband, and not the finest weave, but for $40, no complaints from me.
Some stunners today!
IB: nice semi Calado!
David: gorgeous Borso! Love that dark grey.
Ale: likewise on the Strat, I've got to add one to my collection.
Jeff: that Lee Homburg looks great. The three of you havea dashing palette of grey hats today.
Eric: sharp as always good sir!
I don't mean to rain on your parade, but the thing is that there's only a limited number of sources for hat bodies if you're a hatter. And basically it's Winchester, unless you're Hatco or Dorfman Pacific - neither of which is in the market to produce an undyed silverbelly. Fepsa in Portugal...
