    The Penney's Marathon

Thanks Stefan! It wasn't easy, that's for sure! Even with such a vague listing as "Men's hat" I was a bit surprised to see it still there. Happy, though! :)

    The Penney's Marathon

I forgot to post this pic of a very elegant "Long Oval" stamp. Lee did have style.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Hey all! This Penney's Marathon that I received a couple days ago. I gave it a good steaming, went at it with a hat sponge and put it on a band block to stretch it just a tad. Please pardon the selfie-grimace. Have a great day!

    The Penney's Marathon

Thanks Brent! I've been trying to resist the temptation of online hat buying, with some success even, but this was just too good to pass up.

    The Penney's Marathon

Thanks! I only have one other Marathon, an upbrim black Velour from the 20's. This one will get way more head time!

    The Penney's Marathon

Hey all! This one popped up on Etsy a little over a week ago. Listed as "Men's hat" for $19 plus tax, free shipping. I put it in my favorites and let everyone here have 24 hours to discover it before I grabbed it. Mighty sporting of me, eh? :D Anyhoo, early to mid 50's by my guess, and an...

Dating Vintage Stetsons by size tag

And let's not forget the transitional black keyhole tag that preceded the rectangle, just to make things even more confusing... :)

To the best of my ability to measure it, the opening is 7 7/8" x 6" and maybe a sixteenth. So a 6 7/8 Long Oval?

    Post New Hats Here!

Thanks Stefan! It is still nice to be able to admire it in all it's shiny plush glory before passing it along. Besides, I may have been tempted to wear it if it had fit. The neighbors think I'm weird enough already. Don't want to confirm it! :)

Thanks Steve! This is the first topper I've found in my local shops. It's in beautiful shape, just a bummer that it doesn't fit.

Continued... The crown is 5 1/4",the brim 1 3/4" front and back. The leather is supple and the stitching seems solid. It will end up as trade material since it is too small. No idea of age, other than a guess of pre-depression. Any input as always is welcome!

Lately I have not been in hat seeking and buying mode, but when the fish jump in the boat... :) Today I went into a recently opened second-hand and collectables store just a few blocks from home. Found this cool three-hat Dobbs box. It's cool enough as is, with the Game Bird stamp on the...

OTHER THAN eBAY Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Thanks Brent! Pelts were the first thing I thought of when I saw "piel". Maybe it's a nutria leather sweatband? I think it looks just a bit green for Stefan's tasres, unless he has become a secret Green Machine fan...

OTHER THAN eBAY Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

I wonder if it is stitched together from nutria pelts rather than from felt... I must agree with Stefan as to its strangeness.
