I wasn't alive either (though I would have fit right in with all my historical knowledge), and I have a rock in my shoe most days viewing the modern world. If I had been alive, I'm sure the rock would be a boulder!
You hit the nail on the head. The most widely circulated theory is that he penned Hollywood Babylon in retaliation against the Hollywood that had rejected him, and crushed his hopes of becoming a successful filmmaker. Watching his films, it isn't difficult to see why: Compare his short film...
Thanks Tishkaminx! I'm happy to see she's only got a 9-inch difference between her bust and hips and her waist. Her modern dresses don't exaggerate the ratio as much as her Mad Men costumes; Hooray for classic styling :D
I want a car like that!! Brings me around to the sense of entitlement again: a 17 year old girl thought she would pass me on the driver's side through oncoming traffic while I was making a left turn, signal on and everything. Her car (1999 Ford) got scratched across the passenger doors - Mine...
Tomasso, that is a fab picture! I'm loving the shoes.
Farley Granger, who died this past March, was gay and had a very long relationship with Robert Calhoun. However, in 1955, Farley had a brief engagement to fellow actor Janice Rule. They did not marry, but remained friends.
He was...
Higham's biography of Howard Hughes refers to a relationship between Hughes and Cary Grant. Higham has been denounced as less than credible, though. My aunt loaned me Cary Grant: The Lonely Heart and said it was the definitive biography of him, but its been written by Higham too, so it will be...
:offtopic: Thanks for this. I too question the "verbatim" notes. I tend to think someone would have gotten hold of the tapes and preserved them if they actually existed - that whole "evidence was destroyed because it contained explosive information" argument is a non-sequitur.
I'm not sure...
Tell me about it - Modern Pontiacs use enough!
I always liked the Leave it to Beaver theme, and Merry-Go-Round Broke Down from Looney Tunes. :)
V.C. Brunswick, I've never seen that show but now I want to!
Clifton Webb lived with his mother Mabelle his whole life, and was never married. I didn't actually know he was gay though - A Google search will confirm everything lol
(OT: In the book Hollywood Haunted, there is a cool story about the ghosts of Clifton and his mother that were said to haunt...
Thanks! I believe it is wax. I washed the whole outside of it down with Murphy's Oil and that did the trick, but I don't want to use so much water around the turntable. So the smell remains. I have kept the lid closed about 80% of the time since I bought it, which might be the issue...
Bump!
I picked up a His Master's Voice gramophone (Upright Grand 157) for $200.00 last summer at an antique market. It works perfectly!
I'm having trouble getting the strong wood polish smell out of the inside cover, though. Tea bags aren't working. Anyone have experience with this?
Its this pervasive sense of entitlement that people have these days. It gets me so angry, *I* feel like smashing displays in a cake shop (though I would never actually do it!)
Every time I put gas in my car at the local station, I'm reminded of a tragic example - 2 months back, a man covered...
