What's on Top - Bras, panties, garter belts, slips, & stockings

Have you checked out Secrets in Lace? They have the most divine RHT stockings, and not especially expensive. Fully Fashioned's are outside my budget, but there are some great modern alternatives. Stockingstore.com carries them cheap if you shop online. To save on shipping, I actually buy...

Now this is more like it! - Duchess of Cambridge in Canada outfit.

Really? I think they're quite homely! lol I can only assume that these "hats" were intended as a satire...

    Storage and care...

The advantage of hanging your scarves over the door is that you can see them all, but I've found they tend to bunch in the middle. If you roll/fold them in a drawer you open often, you will still see them, and you can add a nice sachet to keep them smelling nice!

Does vintage clothing attract a rude/violent response?

I'm noticing in this discussion that men seem to attract more rude comments than ladies do... Is the modern male threatened by his well dressed counterpart?

    The Art of Shaving

I have tried the whole leg, save for the really delicate bits I mentioned, where the hair is fine anyway... Let it be said the styptic pencil is my new best friend. lol Thanks!

    Storage and care...

I have little canvas boxes that I section off my drawers with that I store my scarves and lingerie in. Stockings and scarves I roll - This is the only way I can avoid wrinkling and creasing, for either cotton or silk. As for slips, I worked in a lingerie store for a few years, and the only...

The general decline in standards today

All you can do is try - Face-to-face conversations rarely, if ever, involve so many people, and its impossible to respond to every single thing said. I'm sure we all read and take in the majority of what is written here. Then again, we are the ones discussing the decline in standards, and as...

The Closet Door is Open - Lavender Ladies & Gents of the Golden Age of Hollywood

I gather that Tony Curtis was a strictly hetero, meat-and-potatos kind of guy (Which is probably part of his gay appeal lol). That is interesting about Danny Kaye! I've always loved his voice. The same is true in Canadian law. I went through Babylon and Babylon II, and every single person...

The White Stripe: a hair dilemma

It looks great in your avatar, you're a stunner! :) Fantastic - I'm going to try this soon. Thanks! :) I've had it since I was 14. I lucked out with the piercist, because the placement is perfect. Get yours done, and a Mallen streak like Imelda, and we will be sisters! After some Google...

What to do with collections you've no room for?

Corsets and Darth Vader? Oh dear lol Having a long talk with him is a good idea. You've both got to make sacrifices for the good of your home, and since it belongs to both of you, there should be a compromise reached about what is allowed in and what isn't (space permitting.) PS. My mum and...

    Puzzled by my 40's jacket

Lizzie's idea sounds lovely! If you're going to wear it with a blouse, since the jacket is solid you can get away with any pattern. If the pattern has the jewel-tone purple in it, even better. I would tuck the blouse into your skirt, always; I haven't seen a well dressed Golden Era woman...

Now this is more like it! - Duchess of Cambridge in Canada outfit.

I suspect she doesn't dye or put product in her hair, which is why its so sleek :) It is lovely, a nice deep chestnut colour.

Royalty is probably better off dressing conservatively. We don't want another Wallis Simpson, or worse, Beatrice and Eugenie ;)

Why Don't We Have "Heroes" Today?

But its different if you make money off it! lol

Why Don't We Have "Heroes" Today?

Therein lies the difference. Nothing is off limits these days - "Normal people" are guilty of the very same indiscretions, but we aren't splashed over the TV for it.

The White Stripe: a hair dilemma

Thank you LinaSofia and Miss Sofia, you ladies are "top drawer" (another 40's expression!) Being a make-up artist has its perks, even if I don't make a living at it :D Kamikat, you're a doll! Does the name Mallen streak have anything to do with the Catherine Cookson novels? I love how that...

Why Don't We Have "Heroes" Today?

Using the example of movie stars, consider this passage from Leading Ladies: The 50 Most Unforgettable Actresses of the Studio Era: The public is skeptical and hungry for exposés: Today, Joe Lewis or Babe Ruth would be on the 6 o'clock news for abusing steroids. Washington, Jefferson, and FDR...

The White Stripe: a hair dilemma

You have such a pretty face, LinaSofia! Great shaped lips! :) I love the look of the stripe in a roll, too. Here is a cool one (albeit in black and white):

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

OT: When I visit the US of A, Americans seem to think its "cute" that I'm Canadian, especially the further south I go lol

Now this is more like it! - Duchess of Cambridge in Canada outfit.

The Globe & Mail (our largest newspaper) is crazy about her: It was a simple cowl necked dress... She's not especially hourglass shaped either. But enough with the Pippa bashing. lol
