    Arg!! Tired of over-priced stuff

I don't think anyone is being "taken advantage of" if a company charges a premium for a reproduction, especially if it's well made here in the US. You're free to go elsewhere or even better, learn to make 'em yourself. :D

    Remember slide shows?

Found them. They're actually from Florence. This is a partial scan: Thanks for this great thread. You brought back some really comforting, happy memories.

    Remember slide shows?

YES. I also LOVED the sound the carousel made when my grandfather clicked to change the slide with his remote (that I think was attached with a wire). Just last week I asked my grandmother if she still has them and she does. I like that when those were shared you had to tell the story as opposed...

    songs that make you shiver/cry

Allman Brothers "Whipping Post" brings me back to some bad days, one of which is when I was driving alone through the foothills of West Virginia from Maine to KY when my husband was in the USMC. It always makes me feel alienated and alone. So of course I had to go listen to it right now! Ah...

    Vandals attack USS Portland Monument

A Portland monument honoring a decorated warship that survived a Japanese torpedo attack in World War II has come under attack again, this time by vandals. Vandals marked up the monument to the USS Portland, which features part of the warship mainmast and bridge shield. They drew swastikas on...

Wherein I make a spectacle of myself

We never never ever have it licked. Never let your guard down or underestimate the enemy. Just last night I had a smoking dream where I'm suddenly hooked again and am trapped. It's a nightmare, btw and it keeps me on my toes. I always say I'm a smoker who isn't smoking today. It DOES get easier...

    Back to zits

The Thing From Another World (or, how to get rid of a pending zit) I have not had a blemish in years, and now, I have one forming on my chin and it's going to be frightfully BIG. Other than applying pimple cream, do you have any suggestions to kill this damn thing before it becomes visible and...

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

:offtopic: Personally I think it would be great if people would start a new thread for each find for easier navigation and discussing. After all, most of the old things we get are from yard sales, flea markets, etc. Also, each unique find deserves its own spotlight, I think!

TVLand; Going the way of A&E and AMC?

Sure! I went to amazon to add the DVD to my wish list but it said it's unavailable. :( I used to love that show. And Family Affair, Honeymooners.

Think I should buy this vintage TV set?

Ha! Reminds me of the craiglist link I clicked for a 1950's chrome dinette set- and saw a burnt orange 1970's rusted table and chairs. Oh, the fun one could have making fake ads like the one you posted!
