PS. I meant Corto! Don't know why I wrote Corvo. Sorry.
Your latest drawing on your blog (which includes Guernseys) is a masterpiece. I love it. Congtratulations.
Good morning Corvo, I'm glad to heart you purchased a Guernsey. I'm assuming from your blog that you chose the 'New Natural', i.e. Desert Rat colour. Looking forward tothe photos. I am in the process of moving and when I have finished I shall post some myself.
Guernsey Knitwear was a good...
The black one is all-purpose and can go with almost anything. I wear mine with corduroys or moleskins. I often wear the olive with a green barbour jacket.
Ticklishchap...Which company makes the best quality Guernsey Sweater?
Corto, apologies for slow reply. Guernsey Woollens (cited above) or Guernsey Knitwear www.guernseyknitwear.co.uk both make excellent Guersneys. The latter have a wider range of colours. It's bes to stick to the...
Indeed, Sir. Everyone dressed differently but still in unform is typically British, I'm afraid. I am glad you've been issued ith a new woolly pully - keep wearing it! [Though I have to confess I've worn three versions this week - black, olive (Army) and today RAF blue.
That's my understanding - they are no longer general issue but are an optional item. Therefore we - both civilian and military men - must keep buying and wearing them! It's my junch that fleeces are starting to go the way of shell suits and there is a steady trend back towards wool. So it's...
Hello James,
The best way to get one of these sweaters - in olive green or navy blue - is www.silvermans.co.uk
I also have a rifle green Canadian crew neck (and the black US Army or (UK) Royal Tank Regiment version as mentioned below.
One of the best aspects of the commando sweater is the turn-back cuffs. On my US Army black woolly pully they are rolled back about 6", which looks great.
Some really good quality products there. If I weren't already well-stocked I would order one. I might anyway - just to have the honour of wearing a genuine USMC sweater.
I have never seen them on females - I have always thought of commando sweaters as a very 'masculine' garment. So I can only ake your word for it about girls and agree with you about chaps.
I have several of them- olive green, rifle green, navy blue, air force blue, black. But then I've...
I am wearing a new, recently acquired woolly pully crew neck - the standard design but instead of green or blue it's black.
(Pure ribbed wool, of course - not acrylic, which I would never wear).
MY understanding is that the black version is warn by the USMC - and in the recent past was...
Any other fans of the Guernsey?
Any other fans of the Guernsey wool sweater? I am something of a collector of them - most often found in the standar navy blue, but I have just about every colour available - apart from Aran, and I shall acquire that this autumn.
Ilove the rugged masculinity...
I agree with you. They don't 'breathe' like wool and other natural fibres. A acrylic militay sweaters look fake!
By the way, someone on this thread was asking about Norwegian military sweaters - thick ribbed wool with button collar and the arm extending into a glove. There's one on...
