A-1 Jacket / A1 Flying Jacket - The ultimate Golden Era flying accessory!

IMO the hide is too thick and heavy for this pattern.

water treating my A-2 to shrink it

I'm a materials scientist (polymer chemist) by training/trade and mismatch of materials properties is a big issue in lots of areas as they can behave very differently under the same exposure conditions. It depends on the materials involved: the leather is an important factor (horsehide...

Looks in fine condition and a grand colour. Thanks for posting the images.

Comparison of two vintage Perry A-2 flight jackets

Thanks, much appreciated. I'm curious to see how the texture compares with both my cape jackets. It has been said the back of the A-2 resembles merino with the raised 'scars'.

Very interesting, have you posted your Bronco? Yes, you are right - the issued A-1 was capeskin.

Comparison of two vintage Perry A-2 flight jackets

Really? I'm staggered. They were unknown or simply not regarded as a 'real' A-2? My capeskin Doni A-2 falls into a similar category I guess.

Comparison of two vintage Perry A-2 flight jackets

I recently sold both jackets via the VLJF, but thought them worth a post here. Perry Sportswear (of Newburgh, New York) produced two A-2 contracts from the fiscal year of 1942. The precise dating of the contracts have been discussed at different times on the forum and although the information...

    David D Doniger/McGregor Sportswear A-2 (capeskin, 1942-3) - not for sale

Hello Everyone - I recently posted this in VLJF (see there for more images) I recently bought an original civilian ‘A-2’ from John Chapman and have just managed to take some photos in reasonable light to show here. Some of you may have seen it before as it’s included in JC’s jacket CD. I...

A-1 Jacket / A1 Flying Jacket - The ultimate Golden Era flying accessory!

ELC capeskin A-1 (size 42) Hello Everyone - I recently posted this on the VLJF. I am a great admirer of the A-1, which dates (in the mil. spec. form) from 1927 (‘Type A-1 Drawing No. AN-6501, A.C. Order No. 31-800 P’ ). Made from capeskin and lined with sateen fabric, it’s redolent of...

    Good Wear Leather

I see, yes sadly test jackets will tend to be 46 (John's size) and in A-2 jackets these are true to mil spec. - so equate to a size smaller in modern terms.

    Eastman Leather Quality

Can only comment on their capeskin which is very high quality indeed. Beautifully soft, pliable with great drape. Excellent colour and finish.

    Most Comfortable A-2 Styles

Sounds like a good choice, looking forward to seeing it. The leather hanging strap is commonly (very) off centre in Perry A-2s, see my last image. Cheers Ian

    Most Comfortable A-2 Styles

Hi Joel, you've seen my other post so you know the colours. I'm a tad shorter than you - 5'9" but these fit well. The sleeves don't ride up if shoulder chest fit is good. Inevitably, I'd like a mix: colour of the HH jacket/knits, length and weight/drape of the GS, size/height of the GS...

ALL ORIGINAL Irvin RAF type Jackets - Loving that Wolf in sheeps' clothing!

I had the opportunity to get the camera out today and after shooting the Perry A-2s, I photographed my Irvin, which is worn to walk the dog/build snowmen when the weather gets really cold. This is a jacket that was originally made by Links. It is essentially in original condition, although it...
