The Californios had their own horsemanship techniques, which are still practiced with Early California Bridle Horses. Participants dress in the Vaquero tradition. Very interesting history.

Dorcy didn't wear a hat, but I wanted to post his picture. He is a local legend who carried mail from Calico to the more remote mining camps, around 1885. The miners loved him and rewarded him with food and petting.
