Dorcy didn't wear a hat, but I wanted to post his picture. He is a local legend who carried mail from Calico to the more remote mining camps, around 1885. The miners loved him and rewarded him with food and petting.

I'm wondering if this is from the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg (1938)? FDR was the presenter. In addition to 25 veterans of Gettysburg present there were ~1500 Civil War veterans in attendance & their average age was in their mid-90's.

Can anyone source the picture?

@Hurricane Jack, I had the same thought/false location based on the gentleman to the left.

Or maybe we're just recognizing his hat? ;)

As captioned in the link @BobHufford supplied,

"FDR speaks with a Civil War veteran during his short visit to Boise in September, 1937."

So, now I want to look through Gettysburg Reunion photographs again, to find him.

Scuttle, you may be on to something. It may be this veteran that we have seen before. I'm always amazed that after what they had been thru & the times in which they lived, many of these veterans lived well into their 90's! My GG-grandfather survived the war but died at age 64; his older brother didn't make it home.

Let us know what you find looking thru other pictures.
