So whats so horrible about the new Stetsons anyway?

I wonder what this means for the rest of the Stetson line.... Will all the models be made with this improved felt? If so, I'd wager that Stetson would be making the nicest production hats out there. Of course, the long term durability of the felt is still an open issue, but in terms of...

    Johnny Depp's Latest Hat...

...it's not just the young. Teenagers and twenty somethings aren't buying several thousand dollar Fender guitars. Springsteen doesn't even play his original Fender anymore. He plays a pre-distressed replica. Don't be so quick to assume things.

If these Dobbs and Knox hats are on the same level as my Stratoliner, I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up.

It's very quickly become one of my favorite hats. Mine runs a hair on the large side, but it's a very nice hat.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Hey Rick, You'll find some more opinions from other loungers in the Open Crown Stetsons thread (towards the second half of the thread). In a nutshell though, this is the nicest modern production hat I've seen in a while. Of course it's not vintage quality, but it's far superior to all the...

    grammy hat??

the intentional distressing is always a perennial debate on guitar forums. Different strokes. I'll tell you this though, Fender sells a lot of their "road worn" instruments and distressed custom shop guitars.

Never heard of Zapf, but I would be cautious of any modern hat saying to be heirloom quality...they just don't make em like they used to. Lots of custom makers, but Hatco/Stetson is the only game in town as far as brand names.

    The Open Road Guild

Hey Dallashat, welcome aboard! That does look like a very pristine Open Road. Your guess at the age seems pretty good. According to the "Dating vintage Stetsons by size tag" thread those were in use from the 40's through the early 60's. Someone else may be able to tell you about the...
