    Is Hat Ettiquette Obsolete?

It's all cyclical. Complaining about the younger generation is what the older generation does. To wit, see if you can tell if these quotes were written about millennials, or some other generation. (Spoiler alert: of course you can't, because people are always complaining about the young...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Richard: me too! Ive had good luck with old 6 7/8ths hats and just the gentlest of stretchings. I worry about the condition of the sweat on this one, it may have to be replaced. May send to Optimo or see if Bob at Black Sheep has the correct block for it. I do really like the combo, and...

Akubra Fed IV vs Biltmore Taylor Fedora?

Oh, yes, that's another thing to consider. Black is not the most versatile color choice, especially as a first hat. I've been wearing my black Stetson Premiere Stratoliner as of late myself though.

Akubra Fed IV vs Biltmore Taylor Fedora?

Of the two, I'd take the fed. If I may be so bold as to present option C, none of the above, however, if I had to do it all over again, I'd go straight to vintage via ebay. The only caveat being headsize. This isn't a practical suggestion for everyone. If you have a head towards the...

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

Transversed the parking lot next to my family's store today and got "nice brim," and "I like your style." I'll take it.

    Lock & Co or Christy's?!

Oddly enough, only Lock offers the square crown coke/Oddjob hat.

    What makes a hat expensive?

I didn't expect my Strat to be finished as well as a vintage hat anyway. Can Stetson improve? Absolutely. Have they already improved? By my estimation, yes.

Where do you see fedoras worn the most?

Yeah, the original store is in North Beach and the second one is on Haight Street (which surely cannot be cheap rent!). I've only been to the Haight Street store. The clerk was somewhat inquisitive about my Cavanagh Homburg. Apparently they're also running a custom shop out of the North Beach...

Where do you see fedoras worn the most?

Dolores Park on a sunny day here in SF has many a fedora....99% modern dealies. Goorin moves a lot of hats here.

    John Wayne's Akubra?

Looks like Resistol is releasing a 10X John Wayne calvalry hat as part of their John Wayne Collection (the others are a straw, black 4x felt, and black wool crushable): $300 bones.....I actually kinda like it!

Sweet! Congrats John, it's cool that they linked back to you as well.

    Vintage versus modern ´quality´

Oh, very true. I certainly agree with you that the sample we have is as representative as we're going to get. But many "cheap" hats survived!

    Vintage versus modern ´quality´

+1 each to fedoracentric and lefty. Would add other observations, such as that the Stetson Playboy was considered a "cheap" hat. We know, for example, that Stetson's Royal grade felt was their lowest quality fur felt designation. Yet how many vintage Royal Stetsons do we see? I don't know...

    The Curse of Indiana Jones

Oh, I totally agree. I'm actually a defender of Indy IV. Of course Raiders is a far superior film, but Indy IV gets judged harshly. Like the nuking the fridge scene....even the idea that "nuking the fridge" has become the new "jumped the shark." Yes, of course it's ridiculous to survive a...

    The Curse of Indiana Jones

Temple of Doom? Nope. Indy, Short Round, Marion, all jump out of the plane, inflate the raft as they're falling, land on a mountain, and slide down into the river (also: water is not soft at terminal velocity). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YL0LJf515Cw

    The Curse of Indiana Jones

The same guy who survives jumping out of a plane with an inflatable raft.
