What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Great round of Hats as usual...I had a pre-interview meet and greet today, so had to not be so slovenly! Fawcett Playboy in black cherry:

    Did I ruin my hat?

While you can oversteam any hat, as an owner of a Christy's adventurer myself, they are not known for quality felt these days. An Akubra, for example, would not have reacted in the same way.

    Alphonse Capone's Hat

Wow, he was a 6 7/8...interesting correlation to the theory that head sizes were generally smaller back in the day.

    Alphonse Capone's Hat

Would recommend either Mr. Fawcett or Optimo without reservation.

    Alphonse Capone's Hat

Even if somebody did know, the odds of finding that exact hat are likely slim to none. If you really want to replicate it, the best advice I can give is to go custom.

Can you identify this David Bowie Fedora?

If money is no object, a custom hatter can easily replicate this kind of look, minus the Cavanagh edge of course. Art Fawcett has a near invisible overwelt that works quite nicely as "close enough." The block shape is also very similar to Optimo's preferred block. If I had to guess I'd say 5...

Can you identify this David Bowie Fedora?

Looks like it might have a Cavanagh edge on the brim...I'm not sure I see the stitching you're referring to. Borso is a good guess. You won't fnd anything like this in a modern hat. There's actually a decent amount of crown there.

    Is Hat Ettiquette Obsolete?

 I'm an INTJ personality. One of my favorite quotes about INTJs: "Their way of showing that something you say (an idea, a suggestion) has potential or merit is by trying to pull it apart (which shocks those poor souls who instead expected awe or admiration). The ultimate INTJ insult to...

    Is Hat Ettiquette Obsolete?

As the other participant, I must say at no point did I feel personally attacked by Hudson despite our disagreement. We're clearly two folks who enjoy the back and forth.

Hi, does anyone know how to flatten a leather swearband without removing it from the

Steam and leather do not mix unless youre trying to shrink it. You may want to slightly dampen the sweat if you intend on stretching it, but the heat from steam would not be good.

    Plastic Hat Shapers really work!

My understanding is that if you're blocking without a sweatband, you go true to size. With a sweatband, you go one size down. Anybody please feel free to correct me. [huh]

    Black Sheep Hat Works

ANYWAYS...... Some great hats from Bob. I have a Borso that needs an Ostritch sweat I think I told him I was going to send in December...oops! I think I'll also drop him a line about the new 40's Stetson Homburg I got on ebay that needs to be resized.

Open Crown Stetsons: A Call (Plea) to Retailers!!

Always loved that stamp in the front. Very classy touch. An OR in felt like the Stratoliner would be a very nice lid.

    Is Hat Ettiquette Obsolete?

Whether or not you agree with the conclusion, the statement taken as a whole and not just one sentence excerpted, is logical. It doesn't mean that it's always sexist to be kind or courteous. And to be sure, not all women would agree to the above. But it's totally logical.

    Is Hat Ettiquette Obsolete?

Was not speaking of someone who was struggling with something, explicitly the opposite. The example of behavior that might be deemed as sexist by some is precisely when such person displays no struggle. Thus the "courtesy" IS rooted in the assumption that the woman is incapable. It's the...
